No more sarcasm - or - the 1.2 leaves me gobsmacked for real

Featured Replies

Just picked up my brand spanking 1.2 powerhouse furby and chuffed as a chuffed thing, yes the red looks brilliant and with the front fogs looks quite sporty. BUT the engine what a revelation :D is it really a 1.2 I daren't look ;) On the private test track, the one with quite a steep gradient coming out of Brighouse towards Huddersfield the needle was showing 75 mph in fith and she was pulling like a train  The seats are excellent with quite a lot of lateral support, the only thing that spoils the sporty impression inside is probably the instruments but that really is nit picking. If anyone as any doubts about getting this little three pot cast them aside now, I am confident she will devour motorway miles with ease and in quiet comfort.

Glad you like your new car :)

Sounds good, my wife had the 1.2 3 pot HTP as a courtesy car and she loved it.

I borrowed my mothers 1.2 12v for 3 days last week while I was stuck without a car, and I was surprised how perky it felt, Skoda somehow tune the little engine for decent low down torque

IIRC isnt it because it has VERY short gearing?

Does it have the 1.2HTP 54bhp or the 1.2HTP 12V 64bhp engine?

Not really, its just a very good engine....I've never driven a VRS to compare, but the 1.2 64bhp just grows and grows on you...Its a smashing motorway cruiser, and one of the quietest engines I've ever driven. And, when you want, it can hold its own with boy racers, light and agile with addictive engine note (mini-porsche?), revs sweetly and crazily...

but then the 1.2 was designed by Skoda not VW/Audi.

BTW I also think the new dials in the Fabia look a bit crap compared to the old design...

Really, then how come both SEAT and VW had it years before Skoda?

I was driven around by the grand-parents-in-law in one of those. Very impressive for a 1.2 for sure :D

We're getting the Furby vRS, but then I do motorway miles only, pretty much, these days so it made more sense ;)

Good car though, for sure :)

64bhp, obviously no where near the vRS but miles in front of the Felicia, and like I say well impressed

I had one as a courtesy car last time my car was in for a service. I assumed it was the 1.4-16v 100bhp engine when I drove it and was very surprised when I got out of the car at work and saw htp on the back! I preferred it to the 1.4-16v as it seemed perkier and just as capable of getting up to speed

Was it the black Ambiente or the Sahara Gold one? Nice either way.

Also been loaned the blue/grey 1.4 16v saloon......

....got to say I preferred the 1.2 12v overall.

16v revved better but maybe that was due to mileage...12v very deceptive and does have a nice rorty engine note.

Both felt the same getting upto....around the NSL ;) but the 16v felt better beyond... :D

Nah - this was at my previous local dealer opposite St Mary's in sunny Southampton. '04 Comfort with 120 miles on the clock!

Yeah i'm glad you're enjoying it....i'm 18 and driving my mum's one full time, she doesn't use it...i don't let her. And back to that boy racer comment....i can provide first hand information that it really does chip! Got it in August and going on 8,000 miles now!

It's economical too, as it's 'only' a 1.2 - even at revs it's not too shabby there :D

I hope you're declared as the main driver for insurance purposes, then? You are on extremely dodgy ground if you have an accident and she's stated as main driver.

Indeed you wanna be careful. Without having a named driver (or being married I believe) you may only be 3rd party insured. I'd check it out with the insurance company/broker, better be safe than sorry with insurance, realistically :D

Yeah i'm aware of it, just hope i'd never have to use it.
