They're back...

Featured Replies

Well... Finally after what seems like ages...

(but delayed for a week because I'm working away from home.)

My alloys are back from refurb, and hurriedly put back on the car today

I can't tell which were the damaged ones which is a good sign.

And overall I am delighted with them. They have been done in

dark metallic grey powdercoat and laquered with pin head sized

silver fleck. B)

At night they look nearly black which is a Brucie bonus in my eyes

(as I've just looked outside and seen them in the dark for the first time.)

but by day the laquer really picks up the light making them appear a

fair bit paler than they actually are.

Gave a set of Team Dynamics flat valves a try. Along with some

tasty looking (I think so anyway...) VW circular nut covers

(which fit the holes perfectly btw  )

The gamble paid off, cos I wasn't sure they'd fit when I ordered them  .

And finally a brand new set of OE centre caps. (Sorry Cliff :D )

Enough gassing, here's some pics.

Tyre dressing still to be done as I switched sides with the

fronts and they're directional so what was the inners is now facing outside.

Hope you like them as much as I do comments and questions welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Garry.

More pics when they and the car are gleaming again. B)

Look really good Garry! Really love the colour!

looking really good mate..... Expensive???

They look superb! Everytime i see vrs wheels in grey/black or darker colours i want some on my silver vrs!

What nuts are you using on the wheels?

They look unreal!! How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking?

Is it safe to seal and wax them at this stage?

Edited by wilsy7

Very nice mate, good taste! You will love not having to clean them so much too!

Where did you order the nut covers from mate?

Do they include a locking wheel nut one for each wheel?

Look like VW ones, I got same ones from Vw dealer's, £15 odd .

Them wheels are MINT!!! Love jazzed up original wheels, well done, nice colour.

Here's a linky for the nut covers. OE parts too and dirt cheap.

These are cheaper than the ones I bought but I'm not sure if these ones come

with the "hand grende pin" removal tool. (Mine did but they were £11)

BUT, there should be one in the spare wheel tool kit anyway providing

it's complete. There is in mine anyway

I think they look loads better than the hex nut covers that were fitted to the car.

Cheers Chris. Would suit Spiders too ;)

Not terribly so. Lepsons in Swindon wanted £60 per wheel for a refurb and paint.

I know their work is excellent (I've seen a few examples) but I thought we were

getting into new set of wheels territory price wise there.

So, I found a local motorcycle parts refinisher and paid £40 per wheel.

I'm very happy with the powdercoat finish and so I consider that

decent value for money. I know there are cheaper places out there but

he took his time with these because he knows how much I've been looking forward

to getting them done. http://www.realitymotorworks.com/

I keep finding myself staring at them out of the kitchen window.

Didn't appreciate how much they'd change the look of the car in general.

I'll be getting my buckets out later and getting busy with the colinite

get them all sealed and shiny (er..)

Standard nuts with new covers, linky above

Thanks mate, I reckon it's okay to get busy with the waxing.

I'm going to be getting stuck in later with the tyre dress and wax etc.

As mentioned above, £40 each to blast, chem strip, repair, powdercoat, oven and laquer.

I think the colour and finish really bring out the shape of the OE wheels.

They catch the light so much more than before even though they're darker.

And they genuinely look black when it's dark. B)

It's almost like having 2 colours for the price of one :D

Very nice mate, good taste! You will love not having to clean them so much too!

Thanks Simon, I'll be giving them some lovingly applied wax later on, I'm hoping

the flat valves will make the cleaning process a bit less of a faff.

Great linky above Steven, and yes, there were different ones for the locking nuts

in the set. As I mentioned before if you have the hand grenade pin thingy in your

toolkit then they are great value at £7.99 a set delivered. I half expect everybody

with OE wheels will be getting ordering today :D, a really nice cheap subtle mod.

A lot of the hex covers will probably be looking a bit tired by now, mine were and

I just couldn't put them back into the shiny new wheels so I took a chance (fit wise)

and ordered a set ready for the wheels return. Really glad I took the chance, it's

like they were made for the OE wheels.

I think they look loads more modern than the nut

shaped ones and fully fill the hole :giggle: , again to make cleaning a bit easier...

They are pretty difficult to remove without the proper tool so

make sure you have one in your toolkit before you order

They are and thanks for the compliment

I've always really liked the OE wheels so in the end I thought I'd tart them

up a bit rather than go down the 17's route. Dead glad I did. I'm loving them.

Both the lads from the tyre fitters were very impressed with the finish and

choice of colour. They both wanted the details of where I got them done

bargain imo mate. I might get my summer set done next year when winter is back around (so about August 2012 :giggle: )

I've got some aftermarket black and chrome BBS LM type alloys on mine at the minute but have the OEM wheels in boxes in the shed. They could do with a refurb and these look exactly like I had in my mind. They were really cheap as well so good find there! I've looked at the place who did yours but Brizzle is way too far from me and a courier would bump the price up loads. I will have to have a look around locally to see if I can find somewhere similar.

Here's my other set, these ones are embossed with Volkswagen but in every other respect

they are the same. If you have the metal thingy in your toolkit then

you're golden.

Here's another pic on the car from a little distance but without the sun on them too much

even in daytime if the lighting is right they can look quite dark.

They look awesome mate, they have done a superb job. One of the best refurbs ive seen period!!

Very impressed, wheels, nut covers and valve caps. 10/10 and a gold star for you ;)

Ah i thought they were actual bolts and not covers! I did this to jazz mine up!

Had the chance to give the old girl a bit of a scrub to go

with her new shoes today, the wheels look dazzling all shiny.

Spent most of this afternoon getting busy cleaning.

Megs gold class,

Poorboys Black hole,

Nattys Blue paste wax, (2 coats on wheels too)

Chemical Guys Tyre and trim dress.

First pics of the new grille too. :)

Not 100% happy with it but I'm having a fiddle tomorrow.

It's a bit wonky at the mo.

Eyebrows taken off. Got bored with them and they made it look too

Saxo which is never a good thing :D

Enjoy.

The grille a little closer up.

Thanks for looking.

That's looking evil mate, like it!

Looking forward to having a nose around your car too at Combe! B)
