Tuning 2.0 140HP DSG 4WD ?

Featured Replies

I have a fairly new (last week of June2011) 140 HP Yeti 4WD with the DSG gearbox and wonder if I should remap or chiptune (dont really understand the difference)

in order to get a bit more effect out of the engine.

As I understand the 140 HP has 320 nm torque and the limit for the DSG box is 360? so it might be dangerous or have I missed something here?

How much torque does the 170 HP petrol engine provide in a Yeti with DSG gearbox?

Would be happy if anybody could cast a little light on this issue, and also give a little advice on what to do. :-)

cheers

Welcome.

Remap and chip tune are basically the same thing these days. The only way at the moment to remap the ecu is to physically remove the ecu and do the work on a 'bench'.

I have has my same machine remapped. DSG box is good for around 440Nm. I think mine now has just a little less.

Do a search on "SM remap in progress CR140 DSG" and you should find my post from January.

Shark Performance are the company of choice for Yeti remaps.....

Thanks Mike, great help!

In Norway the 170 is not yet available, I guess for tax reasons, as the goverment is making us pay a lot of cash pr HP........

I see that the gearbox should be able to take up to 450 nm, my local Skoda dealer said 360, is he wrong or is there

more than one type of DSGboxes on the market?

Seems like he is shouting warning calls :-)

Anyway, thanks again, I found the two threads with really interesting reading, so I will be posting more questions there.

I put a Racechip on my 140 Manual. www.racechip.de.

Inexpensive at Euro140, very reasy to fit yourself (takes about 10 minutes) and non-invasive - you don't have to break into the ECU or open up the DPF.

No idea what difference it makes, but it does make a difference. Just come back from Austria so it's just had a 2,000 mile test.

I fitted a racechip box to my 110SE with brilliant results(I think)- haven't done a long trip as yet, had intended to do within the 2 week return period(family probs prevented it!) - but, the unit on a fill basis ie full tank to full tank would indicate a slightly higher mpg fig - i do lots of short runs(up to about 30mls) and my now mpg is around 45 as compared to around 43 not a great difference- the car has now covered 6000mls so some freeing up, BUT, the car drives much better, smoother, responsive etc - how does it do it on just a bigger/longer squirt of fuel into the cylinders? - the box indicated an increase from 110 to 140, and there is scope to fiddle with the settings!

The remapped CR140 drives much more like a petrol in that it 'pulls' to the red line of 5000rpm, whereas in standard form there is not much point in taking it past about 3500rpm. There is so much more to torque and power, it makes driving a pleasure emoticon-0140-rofl.gif. But you can still drive it like a diesel, because it is (emoticon-0136-giggle.gif) and change up at 1500rpm and poodle along a straight road in 5th at 1000rpm (30mph). average fuel consumption is 15mpg when driven flat out round a track, 25mpg when towing a caravan to 47mpg plus on a long journey and it is getting better all the time.

5000rpm may sound low for a petrol, but the Polo 1.4CL I sold recently was redlined at 5000rpm......

Amazingly well on the twisty bits, but the lighter more aerodynamic cars pulled away on the straights!

I'm back with Briskoda at Castle Coombe on the 10th September..... This time with a lighter car!!!!!!

sort of.......I've started up running 3 times a week plus whenever I can get out on the bicycle. Main weight loss will be from Elsie. I will be taking a leaf out of the Fabia/Roomster guys book and removing the rear seats and spare wheel......and all the junk you carry in the caremoticon-0136-giggle.gif, and a 1/2 tank of fuel as well.....

I'm still trying to work out whether that's sarcastic or not? :giggle: :giggle:

Mind you, you should see the amount of "parc" in the boot of mine!!

Worth noting a CR170 comparison ...... I can endorse this quote above when chasing my good lady in our VRS on country lanes! Or Vice versa! Actually one thing that amazes me about the Yeti is the grip on roundabouts. Takes me back to my Mini 1275 GT.

Anyone remapped/chipped a CR170 Yeti here?

Hi Otto,

I have no experience with supertuning since the original Mini with adding a Stromberg carb some maaaany years ago and doing something similar to a Chevy Suburban with a Holley double pumper etc back in the 1980's. No electronics involved in either and no turbo.

My gut feeling says that the powerchip unit, which is inserted in the engine harness and is claimed to work on many cars by just changing connectoers is a very genetic device, and not specific to VAG engines and maybe not too efficient. Your engine is still quite new, and will not really show it's real potential til you get well over 10,000 km. I do not have a DSG, but I understand it learns your driving style and adapts?

Finally, JonA has been a contributor here and both has a Yeti and lives near you. A PM to him might get you a local knowledgeable person to discuss the application. He has been very helpful to me in the past.
