brakes

Featured Replies

hey there all

I am a newbie on here. of course its arriving with a problem I have my skoda since feb its been great 90 bhp and loads of economy.

my first problem is with the brakes

The lining came off the rear shoes and the rear cyclinder let all the fluid out. I replaced the fluid. i have red about vag com? what is it?

Vagcom is needed if air has got into the ABS modulator. This is caused by the reservoir being emptied.

How much fluid came out? Did the system run dry?

bleeding the brakes once air has got into the ABS unit can be a right PITA, even if you have VAGCOM (at least that has been my experience. I gave up and let a Skoda dealer bleed them for me. *sob* not often I have to let the "professionals" do something for me, but I wanted peace of mind - when it came to stopping....

ah all da fluid came out resoivor was dry

have not bled as i think the master cyclinder has failed now too it will hold pressure for a bit then let it go

thanks for ur replies

If the slave cylinder has leaked any fluid for ANY reason, even if that reason is overextension of it's travel then it's probably buggered. Replace on both sides if I were you. ;)

have you bled the master cylinder there are 2 bleed nipples on it (hard to see sometimes). a tried and tested way of getting stubburn air from the abs unit is to find a patch of loose gravel or wet grass with lots of space and hit the brakes hard enough to activate the abs pump.. only do this if there is lots of run off space and nobody is likely to get in the way. then bleed as normal after a couple of activations of the abs on the loose surface,

pushing all the calpier pistons fully back in and bleeding from the master cyl first then each wheel as normal but as you have rear drums this would only work for air trapped in the front of yours.

Did you pump the brakes?? You may have damaged the seals in the master cylinder?
