Car limping at high 3rd 4th and 5th and 6th

Featured Replies

My car runs amazing at low speeds then when I get into 3rd and above it's crap and sometimes goes into limp mode. Is this because I gave no intercooler at all? It sounds like I'm leaking boost but I'm sure it's not. Suggestions and criticism appreciated.

Ross.

I'm having the exact same problem with mine but mine has been mapped don't know if that makes a difference hopefully someone can help us

Get this in high 3rd & 4th. In warm weather seems to be. Doing my head in now.

would it not be good low down because you've reduced lag and then crap higher up as intake temps rise? were you expecting it to be fine driving it normally without an intercooler?

Intercooler has been taken off cause it's cracked and the boost hose goes from turbo to intake.

I think there is your answer mate, you would have been better to have wacked the old side mount intercooler on. Your temperatures must be sky high. I looked at your thread on the ss intercooler truly shocking, and I hope it gets fixed soon dude

Quote for an uprated core to be welded in comes in on Monday. Looking at the inside of it looks pretty cool, tiny fingers inside that spiral the air if you get me. Think most of the bottom half of my FMIC is blocked with lunge tbh so about only 3 veins are free...

How did it get blocked? Dont know what lunge is?

Gunge but the way the iPad likes to spell it lol, it's a technical term for the ****e that comes out of the breather and ends up in the boost hoses and intercooler.

Understand now lol

Why is it breathing so heavy? Have you fitted a catch can?

Is the bottom half of the cooler on the outside black?

All the heat soak can't be good for the turbo I bet?

Not sure why it's breathing so heavy, have considered a can.

Bottom of the cooler is filthy from seeping gunge

I don't think hot air makes a difference for the turbo as the cooler is after the turbo.

so, no map sensor either?

Map sensor is in

turbo pressurises air, air gets hot (considering turbos can reach excess of 800C), goes into engine, bang fizz gets even hotter, some gets shoved in back to turbo, turbo overheats and says no. :)

What pipe kit did you purchase for your intercooler? Considering it :)

Turbo oil seals possible? The outside of the cooler shouldnt be filthy although you do see a few like this. I think I've been lucky as my pipes are literally oil free, except for a bit of oil at the bottom joint going to the cooler. I fitted a catch can and it def has made a big difference to the oil at that joint so I would definitely recommend fitting One. What's xaoxs cooler like is it oily too? Did yous get them mapped at the same place? Unit 18?

Also when I was getting my car map before they done any work they screwed the oil filler cap off on idle to check the amount of oil vapour coming out, these cars do breath fairly heavily as normal but any excess may indicate something along the lines of valve stem oils seals which could also be any other reason why it's breathing heavy?

Is this the kit?

Is there anywhere else who sell it? Any cheaper?

Thats the kit I used for my SS. Use a discount code for a few quid off

Yes. Either drive conservatively with it in this state, get the FMIC back on as quickly as possible, or don't drive it at all.

You're doing the engine and turbo absolutely no favours at all driving it as you're doing.
