The warning light in the shape of an engine stays on

The handbook says it is the Testing Electronics Light and the car can be driven but may cause emissions issues and we should visit our Skoda Dealer

Does anyone know what causes this light to stay on. The car drives OK

Also, is this answered anywhere in the forum?

I searched "Testing engine electronics" and returned no results

Thanks

HiPeter,

This sounds like the onboard diagnostic light that covers engine sensor malfuntions, the only way to find out what the fault is to connect to a obd scanner or VCDS, failing that return to dealer for diagnostic check.

The warning light was caused by the Mass Air Flow Meter. Thats the fourth one in 135000 miles!

We had one obviously when the car was new.

Then at 89000 miles an aftermarket brand.

Then at 114000 miles a genuine VW branded item.

Now again at 135000 miles an aftermarket brand.

What is causing these meters to last about 18 months, namely just long enough to clear the parts warranty period?

The first one lasted 89,000 miles so something must be causing it. Could be be the garage that changed the oil at 80,000 miles service from Castrol longlife to a much cheaper shorter life oil?

After 24 hours the engine warning light came on again!

I took the car back to the garage and they scanned again and found EGR valve breather pipes cracked.

They grabbed the breather pipes which then fell to pieces being very brittle from age and heat.

They fitted new breather pipes, about three different complicated looking pipes and now we are sailing again.

The car is getting old now and its beginning to show, but it is still low cost and feels good to drive.

I had better arrange a test drive in a new car to see if I have got used to my Octavia's age related feel.
