Afternoon,

I'm just in the process of ordering some new cleaning products. I'm quite into cleaning my car with a decent knowledge but I'm looking to step it up to a higher level.... some would call this detailling!

Anyway, I have ran out of gear so i'm looking at the following, a few products are Chemical guys.... Purely coincidence.

Chemical Guys XXX 'Hardcore' paste wax - Is being compared with R222

A large waffle weave drying towel

Chemical Guys V.R.P Dressall - for tyres

Chemical Guys body wash

For a pre-wax cleaner I have been looking at the Dodo Juice 'Lime prime'.

How does this little list look for a general wash process? I have spray waxes just to keep the coat of hard wax 'topped up'.

Please feel free to reccomend products and all other input is welcome :)

Thanks

Just a quick question here to you kiddy1, any reason why you fancy the CG Hardcore Wax?

Only reason I say this is that it's durability is very poor, you can also source a more durable wax for a cheaper price.......

I guess it depends what your looking to achieve really...... :|

Hi Baker, good to hear from you again,

Emm basically, from what I have read people generally give it a good review (admittedly I thought it was cheap). Now I am looking at the likes of Collinite though, what's the difference between 915 and the 467s?. I will be claying the car and giving it a good wash before waxing. My car is silver though so is there any you could specifically reccomend? Also if you could reccomend me some tyre coatings :)

Thanks dude

It's a good wax in the sense that it's easy to apply and remove, very much like R222, previously known as P21S and it is cheap but there are cheaper waxes that are more durable and have multiple uses.......

Collinite 476s and 915 are similar, some would argue that the durability of 915 is less than 476s, they are also supposed to be specific to colours but for me I am don't really buy that and it's more of a marketing point, as is the case with most waxes and sealants, they need a USP of some description.

I would maybe look at FK 1000P, super durbale, easy to apply on and off, comes in a massive tin and one of the cheaper waxes on the market, joy with that product is it's also excellent on wheels.

As for tyre dressings I currently use AS High Style but you can only source this from AS or some retailers and it's a very wet and glossy finish, this may not be to your liking? Z-16 is good as this can be layered to achieve a finish your happy with or you could go for something more commercial like Megs Endurance Gel.......

For silver you may want to look for a sealant rather than a wax something like Fk1000p or wolfs chemical's body wrap. With the colly i would say that 915 is slightly easier to apply but 476 has better durability. for tyre coating there is the meguiars high endurance tyre gel, also Chemical Guys new look trim gel and autosmart highstyle

Believe it or not but the FK1000p is what I have been looking for, I just couldnt remember what it looked like lol . As for the tyre dressing I mentioned in the OP have you heard much about it?

Thankssssss

No problem.......

Sadly it's something I haven't used, DW is a mind field and I have changed a lot of the way I think about Detailing Prodcuts now I have been using them for a while, I have a core set of products that do a job for specific application, I get a few samples from other detailer's to try and if I am happy with what I have I stick with it, had a fair few clear outs now but I haven't tried that CG product......

Tell me about it, as a total amateur that forum is so intimidating. You are just an all knowing guru of detailling :p final question.... Is it the Bilt Hamber clay that says it can be used with water? Is that acceptable or will I be better off with clay lube?

It's intimidating for me also so your not alone there and I certainly still have a lot to learn........

Personally I am not a fan of the BH clay with water but then the guy I detail with regularly loves it and uses it all the time, down to personal preference on that one, it's cheaper than buying otehr clay with a lube but then if you invest in some Megs Last Touch for example this can also be used as a drying aid when drying the car so it's 'chicken and egg' really..... :|

Just a note on the CG's Trim Gel. I have had a bottle for almost 2 years now. It is great stuff and a little goes a very long way. I haven't even used a fifth of the bottle in that time. I can only compare it to the AG trim gel and have to say it beats the socks off that product.
