Traction Control light staying on

Featured Replies

Hello everyone! was on the motorway earlier doing approximately 70mph.. a car moved out of the way which allowed me to accelerate to a further 71mph. whilst accelerating the car stuttered terribly as if the traction control was stopping the car from going, then it was all good.. however the traction control light is staying on permanently.

now am i right in saying if it was a wheel speed sensor that went a******* it would cause the abs light to be on too?

any suggestions/experience would be brilliant

many thanks

lew :)

thats impressive

accelerating from 70mph to 71mph

or are you saying you were going 141mph

Could be the MAF, does the engine rock when idle? Try unplugging the MAF and see if it does anything.

hi mate, just had it on a diagnostic reader and it's coming up maf sensor.. could someone please explain what the maf sensor and traction control have in common? i can understand why the engine management light comes on but not the traction light.. that was the only problem found on the log so it can't really be much else!

the engine management light did pop on for a while after i got back home and let the engine rest for a minute, ive cleared the fault code and it has gone but it will probably return as i haven't yet changed the sensor.

and no, it was just a bit of an all round **** take about people speeding/getting told off for speeding.. sorry

MAF sensor. Mine did a very similar thing but i was giving it some right foot treatment at the time.

mine did the same, replaced it with a genuine skoda one and that lasted a few weeks. skoda had the car in replaced the maf and all the coilpacks( this was on an outstanding recall). touch wood its been fine since

I am not 100% sure, so may get corrected here. But the MAF works on airflow and to control the throttle on traction control the MAF need to read the air coming from the airbox and if it can't because the MAF doesn't work then the car wont know how to adjust the throttle so t/c stays off.

TBH T/C kills the car. Every time I get in I turn it off. It's a really dimwited system and just steals all the power. Shame the MAF has to be broken for it to be off.

Okay mate! thanks for that makes sense to me :)

Traction control on these is, exactly as you describe, dimwitted.. all it does it really sap it down then again I rarely push it hard enough round corners for it to come on but if I fire out of a corner you can feel it really grabbing back sometimes.

Hi everyone, changed the MAF and all is well and good, however the old MAF sensor did not have a resistor across it.. i dread to think where that is now lol

Correct !!!

Glad its sorted!

The resistor you speak of would be he air intake temp sensor, if fitted.

On my VRS it is not fitted in the MAF but in the throttle body so these connections are intentionally left blank.
