Question for you diesel Octavia owners.

Featured Replies

I have fitted a bigger battery to my car, a Varta F18 Silver, and need a 'protection cover' for it. Item number 7 below

Battery.jpg

The new battery measures 317mm x 175mm x 175mm. I'm not sure which of the partnumbers will be the correct size cover for the battery, so can someone with a similar size battery in their Octavia please check the partnumber for me. I THINK the one I will need is 1J0 915 418 C.

I don't seem to have a protection cover on my battery.

I don't seem to have a protection cover on my battery.

When I looked, I thought mine must be missing as I don't have one either - but I can't see that one is needed.

The battery tray will take a larger battery than the factory fitted one in the 110 TDi to UK spec.

Edit:-

In a gap in the rain showers I have just taken some measurements.

My battery is 260 x 170 x 175

The gap between the left and right vertical walls of item 3 is ..........317mm!. A tight fit but should go in but I guess you know that as you have fitted the new battery already.

Looks like you don't need item 7.

The 'cloth' cover will protect the battery during the winter - hopefully making it last longer :thumbup:

I don't have a cover for my battery in my 110TDi either...

I just have parts 3, 5 and the fuse tray. No parts 6 or 7.

I have a garage to do that ;)

But you can't park it in the garage when you are not at home can you? :giggle:

The smaller battery that I replaced had a cover but that is too small for the new one.

Here is a pic of the new battery and the plastic cover removed;

That is how mine looks... (apart from the few extra wires you have attached). I might try and take a picture of mine tomorrow for you.

My old toledo used to have the fabric battery cover on it.

That's a different type to what I need. The one that came off looks similar to this;

but doesn't fit the larger battery. So I need to know the partnumber for the correct size larger cover.

A battery cover is, in MHO, essential to protect battery from any rain from the front grille and also from dropped metal tools/objects .

Mine still has the plastic cover (number 6 on the drawing at the top) but not the little blanket to keep it warm.

Ive got the plastic one, like in the first pic

Got the right cover for the larger sized battery, it was 1J0 915 418 C as I thought.

Cost me £12.30 from Sere Motors.

The hard plastic cover then slides down over the top.

Another big :thumbup: :thumbup: to David at Sere - top quality service and cheapity cheap prices for genuine VAG parts

Ok time for me to ask a silly question... What is the real purpose of one of these battery covers? I can't see it keeping the battery warm over any extended period of time.

As far as I know it helps to protect the battery both from engine heat and from the cold weather. That may just be nonsense though.

Seems unlikely to me, that given any prolonged exposure to either engine heat or the cold outside environment that that rather thin looking would make much difference..... but there again I don't have one fitted on my car so I would say that.

On a plus note, I just got ETKA working, so I looked up battery covers on it!
