Retrofit Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Is there a how to guide on retrofitting cruise control? I'm just trying to find out what parts I'd need for my 07 reg to retrofit the CC and how to do it. I've searched the forum but can't find one anywhere :( So I'm hoping I've just missed it and that some helpful fellow can direct me to the right place! :)

Cheers!

I'm interested too as I have '07 estate that may get done soon.

I'll post back if I ever find anything then! And would appreciate it if you would do the same for me :)

Will do. Best I came up with was some info from a trader on eBay saying that I would need to check the ECU was compatible with CC and that I would also need an additional bit of wiring to fit it to my vehicle!

Didn't get much further than that, but if I do, I'll be sure to post something.

Are you looking to fit it yourself? If not Shark Performance and Awesome come to mind, as two places that would fit for you. Cost would be around £150 all-in.

As for DIY, there are kits available on eBay. e.g. http://goo.gl/gFFwz - there's also a link to a fitting guide there.

The genuine kit from dealers for the Octavia II is less that £65 iirc, pretty straight forward to do.

For your MK1 Leon it's really straight forward, again the kit from Skoda for the Mk1 Octavia TDi would also have been fine and aside from enabling the engine ECU it's all plug and play.

Yeah I'm looking to fit myself, as I'll have access to VCDS (kindly offered by James!) so I don't think there's anything to stop me doing it myself.

I presume it's just a case of replacing the old stalk with the new stalk (with cruise control buttons) and then plugging into VCDS to activate it? I just can't find instructions on how to get the indicator stalk off myself!

Let me know if I've missed any steps though!

Fairly straight forward

Top steering column shroud off

Airbag off

Steering wheel off (M12 spline bolt)

Lower column cowling off

Undo T8 torx screw and drop down column ECU

Remove coil spring and steering angle sensor if fitted

Remove stalk

Fit new stalk

Refit all parts

Code engine for cruise

Code steering column ECU for cruise

Carry out basic settings of steering angle sensor (if fitted)

Job done.

Have to admit that there are two things that make me hesitant at the moment over fitting it myself:

Have read about a few problems with potentially activating the airbag while taking it off the steering wheel;

Will it be compatible with a car that does not have Maxidot fitted (how will the speed settings be displayed in the 'basic' Skoda instrument display)?

Otherwise, I'd be on it.

Can anyone shed light on these?

I have cruise control factory fitted on my MY2007 Octavia Mk II pre-FL VRS without maxidot and it works fine, when I press the button to enable the cruise control a light comes on to show it's activated and then I press + or - to change the speed or it can be easily disengaged. Mine is needing the contact switch cleaned though which I'm a bit wary of doing, is it possible to buy just the switch unit without the stalk?

I was told that it will only work depending on the ECU fitted. How do you find out whether your ECU is compatible?

I just phoned a main dealer to ask this. Quoted £69 for the stalk and £210 total inc fitting.

However if the steering module/ECU is not compatible need a new one at an extra £157.

He checked out details over phone using reg No. but couldn't really confirm so said that technician would need to see the car/steering module to determine if it was compatible. Will take mine in next week to find out.

Got an independent looking into who said he could find out from reg No. He may come back and confirm either way.

I know this is an old thread, but here goes. Just installed a cruise control stalk on my 2007 octavia, and everything seems fine, haven't programmed it yet. But I think I managed to turn the steering sensor a bit during the install, and now I've got a steering wheel lamp lit in my dash.

Is this something that I just have to program out? Like reset the sensor or something? Or do I have to take it all apart again and adjust it manually somehow?
