100w bulbs

Featured Replies

i know it's not strictly legal (actually illegal) but if i was to replace my standard 55w headlamp bulbs with 100w ones would the reflectors handle the heat - would there be much difference anyway?

I'll ugrade the loom to a relayed system anyway so not worried about wires melting.

*cough. My friend says the modern wiring in the headlamps is more than sufficient to take the "pressure" of 100w bulbs. Not that I've gone down this road yet.

Night nite *yawn ;)

My RS had 130w bulbs, my SDI has 100W ones. Mind you, between the 2 cars, in 3.5 years I've only driven 200,000 miles, quite a few of which have been in the dark and I've had no problems.

As John says, the std wiring will take it no probs, Im running 130's no problem, the only thing I do is to lower them slightly when driving "normally" as the increased dip can be anoying to drivers ahead in heavy traffic

I also have a friend who highly recommends the Philips Rallye 100W main beam bulbs for his Fabia. Apparently it makes seeing in those pitch black country lanes in Hampshire much easier :D He's had no problems with wiring or reflectors melting in the 6 months he's been running them

i too have 100W rally bulbs w no problem, considering 130W though

All this talk of 100/130 is in main beam right? No-one is using specially extra powered bulbs in their dipped beam are they?

was going to stick some osram 55w super silver in dipped and some 100w in main beam. do quite a lot of driving in the highlands and never seem to have enough light. Had driving lamps on my last car that came on with main beam. The problem with havin so much power on main is that you're plunged into relative darkness when you dip. I don't really want to go blinding people with dipped beam.

my bulbs 100/90 instead of the standard(legal) 55/50 and i want 130/100(i think thats the ratio so yes, everything is more powerful

I may be being thick but are there 2 headlamp bulb - 1 for dip 1 for Main. In my day there was only 1 bulb

has anyone run for say 50 miles on main beam with the 100 or 130's without dipping them at all or very few times ?

Yep, I have, driving down the A470, dipped about 4 times in 4 hours :D

I've had my 100s on main beam for at least 30 minutes+ on back lanes, etc around my way. No probs.

Did I say "me"... I meant, "my friend" of course. :D

good as i do the a712 a713 every sunday at about 10 pm so never any cars on it

our cars do only have 1 bulb but other cars do have 2, depends if you have H4 or H7 and yes i too have run high eam for prolonged periods with no problems

The Octy has a single bulb, but the Fabia has two. Without Xenons, the Fabia uses H7 for dipped and H3 for main. Check out www.powerbulbs.com for replacement uprated bulbs :D
