Anyone use standard tyres on their 4x4 Yeti last winter?

Featured Replies

Tip: type "site: briskoda.net winter tyres" into Google and you will get all these threads from the past to read at your leisure. If you still have questions after doing that, by all means, start a new thread. If your questions had been answered (and I'm dead sure they would have) please leave this subject in peace. B)

Thanks.

We ought to get that 'pinned' across all forums; never thought to do it myself. ;)

Good idea Johann and Bahnstormer ..... again!!!! Usual Briskoda excellent thinking.

My final word on winter tyres why not all seasons as a compromise?

Probably will snow when Yorkie finally arrives. Been told big problems with 140 DSG availability could be delayed up to December!!!!

Must be all going into VW/Audi and Seats :(

Thanks.

It's pinned in the Octavia forum and also there is an insurance friendly thread in the ICE, Security and Insurance area

Guys call me stupid but I have read those winter threads and they is confusing!

Cant I just spec the same size tyres that are on the Anapuras and get them changed from the supplier? anyone got a standard 17" tyre that fits the Anapura rim they have used and is quite cheap? :'( I am stupid I know.

The 17" tyres were so much more like for like when I bought mine last year, that it was cheaper to buy a steel wheel AND and a 215/60 R16 tyre for less than a 225/50 R17 winter tyre from the same manufacturer.emoticon-0112-wondering.gif

I tried to reply but the website was playing up and was posting only what I was quoting....weird.

Yes; you can quite simply buy/use 225/50 17 'winter' tyres. I do.

Not sure that you can get this from the factory, although I have heard IIRC of a Yeti being delivered with an extra set of winter tyres on 16" steel wheels.

You might be able to persuade your dealer to supply & fit 225/50 17 winter tyres and take the OE summer tyres into stock with a small price differential or, as I did, supply your own winter tyres (bought from mytres.co.uk) and then I sold my OE summer tyre to a fellow Briskodain.

As Rockhopper has already one of the (main) reasons guys go for the 205 or 215/60 16 on steelies route is cost. One of these tyres is typically less than £100 whereas a 225/50 17 winter tyre is around £135 - £160 (ignoring the budget brands).

Cheers BahnS, getting clearer, final question promise 16" with Steels, no faffing around with VCDS? Again not clear given the wealth of posts on this subject. appreciate the info mate, even if you are saying it again on this thread! :p

NO - reset TPM only. Nothing else.

Dont have TPM - was not on car so getting closer to a final destination here.

Just off phone to a local dealer, Nancan? 225/50 R17 £116 fitted. Per wheel. Seems reasonable to me!

Sorry; thought TPM was part of Elegance spec. Remembered it is an option. Therefore you need to do nothing - just change the wheels.

Nancan - think you refer to Nangkang. Far Eastern 'budget' tyre although £116 sounds OK. Personally a mid range Hankook, Yokohama, Vredestein would be a better investment around £135+ per wheel.

Pays your money; takes your choice.

I was ok-ish last winter with summer tyres on a 4x4 Yeti. However, there were moments when I certainly wished I'd had more grip so I'll be getting a set of steel wheels and winter tyres this autumn just to be sure. On summer tyres it was far better than the Avensis I had before (bleagh), but braking on hills took a fair bit of planning and a gentle touch.
