Remap query!

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Basically my car has a Celtic remap on it (bought the car with it already done) and the car is completely standard. I know for a fact that Celtic came to the blokes house and did the remap on his driveway.

The query that I have is a daft one, but a daft question is a question unasked. I have a panel filter and turbo intake pipe ready to go on, but I was wondering if I were to put these on, would it interfere with the generic map on the car at the moment? I.e. Make the car slower, not run properly etc...

Shall I put these on now, or shall I wait and put them on the day I have an R-Tech custom map? (Which won't be for a long while)

Cheers

Marc

Not convinced the panel filter will require a different map. When mine was mapped i wasn't asked 'What type of panel filter do you have sir?" and Ben at Shark knows his stuff.

Not sure about the intake pipe.

How well does your car run with the Celtic map?

Runs fine. Though I've come straight from a MK2 GTI so I guess I wouldn't know the difference.

The cars quick, but its got quite a bit of lag. For example when you floor it in 2nd from say 2,000, nothing much will happen and then it all comes in a second or two later. Then when you come towards the end of the gear and go for 3rd, nothing much happens, then all the power comes in again a second or two later.

Don't know if this is down to a map or just the way a standard car drives?

The car does have massive midrange power though, but then dies off quickly after 5ish... or that's the way it feels anyway.

celtic tuning - I've had experrience of these folks - avoid at all costs

The phrase 'poor customer service' doesn't even come close to describing their efforts to map my car - I had to turn up with a car tranasporter and demand my car back

The only posative thing I can say about them, was that I got my money back ( but not the cost of car transporter, telephone calls, etc, etc )

I would get it to rtech as soon as you can he is the man when it comes to mapping.

yeah I know but I don't have a money tree. ill get there when I can

Why don't you have a money tree!!!!!!!! Lol

god knows! just want to know if I can add these changes parts without sacrificing the way the car runs at the moment?

An air filter won't make a real difference to a map, expecially a celtic one. Don't get ben at Shark started on celtic lol :D

tbh, from your description of the map, it sounds like you may have fuel starvation/running lean issues.

This ties in with the characteristics of the attempt at stage 3 mapping they tried on my car

I was warned such issues can lead to serious damage ~ I'd not do anything to your car, and drive it carefully until you can get a better map, or put it back to OEM map

Sorry to sound so pessimistic :(

TBH, I think the lag sounds normal. The turbo on mine will start to spool at around 1800, but won't fully spoll until about 2500. It will hang at 5 psi for a second or so, then climp quickly to around 17 PSI.

this isn't a stage 3 car. this is a standard, healthy car with a Celtic map. there are no issues. I get good mpg and I've pulled all the way to 150mph in not a lot of time. the power is constant, but I'm a perfectionist. I wouldnt say Celtic are bad, as to me bad is being told your about to get 4 years for talking about starting a riot.

I'm still going to drive the car properly, or aswell as the current map will allow. as I said, I will get it finalised with r-tech, but funds just do not allow.

and again, all I want to know is, will fitting the above effect the way the car drives in a negative manner?

if no one knows ill just ring rtech tomorrow

I don't think changing those things(filter and hard pipe) will make a really noticable difference.

Perhaps,maybe some addition noise?

Re-map on the driveway...do you think they just turned up the boost of the turbo?

troy, in my honesty, what reliable tuner would do that? its like a drag and drop file replacement. can't be the best scenario.

cheers for your view. think I will go ahead with the tip and filter change. just wanted to check as alot of hard work and hours has gone into financing this car, as I'm sure its the same for every bugger else.

cheers

Hi Marc,

I understand where you're coming from...

You should enjoy the car as it is for a while before you start changing parts on it.

Just don't step on it all the way to 150 all the time! LOL!

All I know is modifying a turbo-charged car can be endless...

Happy motoring,

Troy.

awesome, cheers troy!

p.s, the 150 was just to see what the new car could do the day I bought it!

I must getting old!

I've only got it upto 120.

My top speed has been 112 for the last three years...lol
