Oil temp reading

Featured Replies

When driving along oil temp on maxi dot was 104, however on dash temp was showing 90 I.e normal bang in the middle ??

yep oil temp normally shows a different reading to water. Can be higher or lower.

Mine generally shows low to mid 90's but in hot weather and driving hard it climbs to around 100.

Water temperature climbs up to 90 and never moves!

Only 2,000 miles on the clock so would this be the reason for 100+ reading? When should I start to worry temp wise?

The temp gauge on the dash is for water temp. Oil temp is only displayed when you ask for it on maxi-dot.

Were you going a little fast... I've only seen 100+ on oil temp when giving it the full beans! :-)

No beans 50-60 mph

104 whilst cruising seems high, unless that's normal for diesel. Mine is about 92-94 when cruising, 100+ if I'm giving it everything.

My water temp goes up to 90 fairly quickly, and stays there all the time.

? Don't know I've checked and it seems fine will go out n check now , to little or to much what would be the issue?

Just checked and oil level is at the top of the grey section looks as if there's too much in there, I haven't put any in so it's come from the factory with too much in it? long term damage should I empty a little I've got a vacuum pump, but if I take too much out just top up with this

If the dipstick is like the petrol one, top of the grey section is full and anywhere between there and halfway is OK.

We really need another 1.6 diesel owner with maxidot to tell us what his/hers reads :)

It's really at the top of the grey section just checked and if I was filling her up I would have said there was too much in the sump!, it's above the a section in the drawing so may remove some in the morning, there's been this much innit since I've had it, and it's done 2k mileage

Right 104 is high if your only doing 60 mph. I've seen mine up there if running a bit hard in sport mode but not normal driving.

POOH I will empty some out in the morning, and hope it stays a little cooler, if not it's to the dealers

mine goes up to about 120/125 with max speed on the autobahn for 15-20 mins (summertime 30°+ outside )

On that evidence, 104 when cruising could be completely normal for a diesel.

Thanx for reply but think there's a little to much of the black gold in the sump, Fabianoh5n1 is it a crtdi 105bhp you have?
