Flash Alloys and 205/50 R17 winter tyres

Featured Replies

Just realised in the couple of years of various threads and debates regard winter tyres, that mention of the official winter alloy and it's respective 205/50 R17 tyre size has hardly been raised. Is anyone using them :wonder: Appreciate this is probably by far the most expensive route to winter traction, with the RRP of one alloy a B) £163, plus another £144 for a branded tyre such as Bridgestone.

Just curious as I recently came across the first photo I saw of a pre production Yeti winter testing and running on this set-up.

One month ago, I bought my Yeti 4x4 110SE; before that I had a Volvo V70 D5. I had a set of winter tyres and rims which made all the difference in the world as I live 1200ft up in the Peak District.

On snow and normal tyres, the Volvo would get two car's lengths up the hill before slipping to a stop. With them, all the way up the hill with no problem, reverse into our (steeper) drive without slipping once. I will be getting a set of winter tyres for the Yeti and if the improvement is as good as the V70, then I should be able to climb the tree in the garden with it!
