pick my mk2 vrs up tomorrow :D

Featured Replies

i'm so excited, decided to go for a mk2 to replace my mk1 that got savagely murdered in a crash a few weeks ago, it was by far the best day to day all round car i've owned in years so it wasn't a hard choice to go for another octavia but i really did have a soft spot for the mk2 so it was only going to end one way.

it's a 3 owner car, 2006/56, 84k on the clock with full rainworth skoda service history, new pads and discs all round at the last service, timing belt was repalced last year, only thing the car wants is a set of tyres which isn't the end of the world to me, i feel a got a bargain looking at the prices these cars seem to be advertised at they all come in around the 6k mark, lets just say i paid considerably less than that for it!

the only thing it doesn't have and i really do think i'm going to miss is reverse parking sensors, i think it's original owner must have been a bit shy when it came to going through the options list.

so here's to spending the next few weeks/months looking into what's what with the cars, i think my first adventure will be finding out if i can connect my ipod to the factory headunit (stream mp3 if anyone reading this knows the answer)

cheers

john

If you have the stream mp3 then you will should have an auxillary plug in the arm rest (big box) between the front seats (if it has one). You can connect the mp3 into that but will not be able to control the ipod from the head unit. If you want to do this there is a unit that replaces the cd changer and does give some control (Fiscon unit I think it is called).

Hope all goes well nothing like getting a new car I hope with price being so good youve invested some potential savings in a good old HPI check? I wouldn't buy a car off even a relative without one!

Hpi check was done and came back clear.

Would you look at me though, 30 years old next month and I'm up at 6am excited about picking the car up later!

Good luck for today John and don't think you're sad, I have just finished my brekkie and am shortly off outside to condition the leather on the seats after cleaning them and leaving them to fully dry overnight.

Have a great day

Don't forget to take and post plenty of pictures!

Enjoy

Enjoy and remember to post pictures, after a thorough clean obviously!

there's a distinct lack of arm rest between the seats so is there anywhere else i'm likely to find a aux input or is it game over for that idea?

You may be able to retrofit one since the stereo can accept the feed but without the jumbo box I do not think it will have the aux input. I take it you do not have dual zone climate control or electric rear windows either and 17" wheels? Seems like you have the basic VRS with no options. That is probably why it was so cheap since just after your car these features all became standard hence cars without them do go for less money as they are less desirable. Still as long as you got a good car at a good price who cares.

yep that's the one, i paid a shade over 4k for it so to be honest i'm happy as it is in pretty tidy condition. annoyingly though the airbag light came on as i was nearing home so will need to look into that one, the joys of buying a 2nd hand car eh!

Good job on price fingers crossed warning light will be a simple fix.

Just giving it a wash and wax before pictures, it's not really dirty but still it's my new toy!

There seems to be a fairly common issue with the wires under the seats causing the air bag light to come on, that does make sense really as the guy I bought it off had a fair bit of stuff that he was taking out if the car so may have pulled a wire. I can plug in to it at work on Monday so will be more sure what it is then.

Have a good search around here maybe you 2 are different heights and seat was moved I had a 406 that that would happen with ended up rewiring part of it.

we were similar heights, i didn't even move the seat it was all pretty much right, i'm going to stay positive until i plug my ethos into it on monday and it tells me otherwise!

i've given it a wash and quick go over with some auto glym express wax as the water was beading up niceley already so i'm happy it has a decent coating on it already so the express wax will do until i can get hold of the auto glym man and get something a little more special to go over it with.

so there she is, never going to win any concourse awards but i feel i got it for a good price and it's a good clean honest car, it's got a couple of marks here and there that i might get the dent man to work his magic on but it's never seen a spray can since it left the factory and it's all original panels etc so i'm pretty pleased with it.
