Braided Brake Hoses

Featured Replies

Anyone know if the OEM front brake hoses on the Octavia VRS 1.8T (AUQ) are bradied?

Also is this the correct P/N for the VRS (taken from the useful part numbers discussion)

Octavia Front brake Lines

Thanks,

Ian.

No the are not braided. If you are looking at replacing then go to braided.

Thanks m8, is there any braided one's you could recommend that would fit the VRS?

I've tried the Hel ones but they're too short and are missing the clip to attach them onto the front shock as they're looped through.

goodridge fit i think thats what i have on my brembos

Try Forge , as I do belive they have a sister company that do them , and can do all different colours too ;)

Dont forget you will get forum discount from them too :D

Here's the story so far;

I bought a set of HEL (front and rear) braided lines for Octavia VRS 1.8T - when my mechanic went to fit them he noticed that the front lines were missing clips to attach to the shock - which apparently is required for MOT/NCT, so I got back to the lad I purchased them from and he sent me on a new set of fronts with clips (but the clips were wrong and would not fit) also the mechanic stated that the hoses were too short when he went to put them on. I measured them and they were 48cm in length - I had a look online and the OEM hoses 56cm. I had a look at forges site and awesome site (both seem to do the same braided hose type) - so I dropped Mike an email about their hoses, he was kind enough to send me on some photos and to measure the total length of the front lines - the clip looked ok but they come in 49cm length (Mike also mentioned that he knows people who have successfully fitted the same hose to MK4 Golf Chassis with 312mm discs) - so it's possible that there is a better/shorter way to route the hose to make it fit - but I didnt want to end up with another set of hoses I couldn't use so i gave my local goodridge brake hose supplier a call. They checked with Goodridge and they did not supply Octavia VRS MK1 hoses, but they do Audi S3 hoses, the guy in the shop reckoned that the S3 Goodridge front hoses should definitly fit my car so he's ordered a set for me, i should have them before the end of next week - will let you know how I get on.

Got this sorted over the weekend, the Goodridge S3 hoses fit perfectly and had the correct attachment to link the front hoses onto the shock as they run through.

Is this confirmed?

Only, I was told the other week that the OEM's are braided under the rubber jackets...

I didn't get the old ones from the garage to cut them and check, but if you look at an earlier discussion on this:

http://briskoda.net/forums/index.php?app=forums&module=post&section=post&do=reply_post&f=27&t=172065&qpid=2133580

one of the posts stated:

The rear hoses are not braided, they are just rubber with some metal pipe sections, crimped together. One of mine had to be cut to be removed, there was no braided part under the rubber.

Bugger! That's another £100odd I'll want to spend when the pads/discs wear out then (pretty soon by the looks of them)

Which set did you use?

The S3 Quattro KCB-6-112-4 ('96 to '00)

or the S3 Quattro KCB-6-113-4 (to '03)

you could always buy brembos...they come free with those

Yehhhhhhh, thanks Luca. Another great big bill is JUST what I need right now. :giggle:

Bugger that, I ain't uprating a damn thing, other than replacing 8 year old hoses.

Well,

I'm not INTENDING on uprating anyhoo. :giggle:

Let's see what I've done in three years time shall we... :p

Unless of course, you happen to have an uprated set of brakes lying around that won't cost me much more than new OEM discs/pads and new stainless hoses. ;)

(Well, a guy can try, can't he! )

i know, just pulling your leg

Oi 'ate you Butler!!!!

I suppose I ought to check whether anybody knows if the saloon and estate versions are the same? I really can't imagine they wouldn't be for ANY reason, but even so...

I'm not sure which ones they were, Keith from alloywheels on the vag forum ordered them for me - he done me a good deal and it's probably worth giving him a shout if you havn't ordered yet.
