Auto Tailgate

Featured Replies

Anybody have any info about this mod?

Nope but looks good to me!

I did a thread a couple of years ago when I did SWMBO's MK5 Golf, unfortunately the springs never seem to last very long (and make closing the tailgate much harder) so I removed them.

Springs at the end of the damper . Had a Group buy in the German Forum for those

Wow that looks good!!, I miss this from my superb2

Do some VAG cars have this as standard so you could just take the lifters from them?

Only models i have seen are higher end audi saloons...

Which of course have a completely different hinge system.

could mybe be adapted from a q5/q7 if it has the feature though?

What about the superb one

That may be possible as the 'struts' on the Superb (with Electric tailgate) look and sound like they are just a large screw inside the strut. I would imagine they are not cheap though!

Also, I would imagine you would want a strut which was the same length...

Changing the mounting would just be asking for problems.

Not too fussed about this mod now with the downsides that have been mentioned.

The Golf can open like that with our Fabia gas struts, Scirocco stop bumpers and Seat Leon strut ball pins. Wonder if that would work on ours.

I got a pair of Scirocco stop bumpers and they fit fine in the holes provided, they got a spring action but not enough to lift the door clear. So I wonder do the Seat strut ball pins got anything different from our struts that could help push the door higher?

IIRC there are two diameters of ball pins, I assume the Seat uses the larger diameter?

SWMBO's Golf is a very early MK5 (2004) that uses thicker diameter ends on the strut that the 2007 struts I also had (I bought a complete tailgate of a 2007 GTi)
