Is that the latest Roofrack/non-competitive scenic tour for classic cars across Europe/Porsche Cycle Carrier?

Seriously thats a HUGE amount of money to carry three bikes! I reckon from a purely VFM aspect thats a non-starter. I use a set of Altea Bars with Barracuda Carriers. You can easily get three bikes on the roof of our vehicles.

It is not easy to answer. First of all you decided using Thule. This is a good decision.

1.) The solution on the roof needs carriers too which are not for free.

2.) The solution on the roof is known to consume more gas and you cant drive that fast (which is not recommendable in the first place with all solutions. Anyhow...its slower).

3.) The solution on the roof needs the bicycles placed on the roof which needs to have power enough for it. Any damage, which can happen easily, can cost you more than any money you may save.

4.) And as a bonus the solution on the roof steals you the possibility to have another box giving you extra space.

Decide by yourself.

That is a huge amount of money to spend to carry bikes.

I have x2 Thule 951 cycle carriers mounted on the Thule Square bars on my roof and there is space to put a 3rd carrier on which I will have todo next year.

Bunuel, Do you already have a towbar fitted?

As your looking at towbar mounted systems I assume you have weighed up the pro's/con's of both towbar/roof mounted systems.

I tow so a towbar mounted system is not possible for me, I found the only downside to a roof mounted system is the amount of dirt that falls off the bike onto the roof of the car , I've not noticed any difference in economy and don't have any problems trundling along the motorway at 70mph with the bike/s on the roof.

I returned from holiday the other day. I can only confirm the good usability of this solution.

I've got the 3/4 carrier Thule Euroclassic G5 909, with the 4th bike adapter.

Fine for 3 bikes - Octavia nosewight is 75kg so 4 bikes the size of ours are too heavy for it.

I like the fact you can tilt it to raise the tailgate; negating the need to unload the bike carrier to access the boot.

Carrier weighs 18kg so it takes a bit of puff to get it on/off the towball, but very happy with it. (Just wish I'd realised the noseweight issue before purchasing the 4th bike adapter, which I can't use as bike 4 must go on roof).

Noseweight is 100kg with my retrofitted Westfalia. I am not sure but factory equipped towbars have 80 kg with the Superb.

The Superb brochure (pg 24/25) states "Nose weight max kg 80" for the whole Superb range. This is not the same as the max kg rating of your tow bar, which in your case is 100kg, but is the max load your car can take via a tow bar.

Good luck! My Westfalia detachable bar is also rated at 100kg max - however the Octavia noseweight is 75kg, which limits me to the Thule Euroclassic G5 909 (18kg) plus 3 bikes (13kg, 14kg, 15kg). Bike #4 (17kg) must go on the roof.

Anyone interested in a Thule Euroclassic G5 908/909 (4th bike) Adapter 9081???

80kg will make it hard to have four 18kg bikes + carrier. For the next five years I will only need two of these bikes to be adult ones. This reduces the average weight of the bike to 15kg which is ok.

But it may be the case that as long as the maximum load of the Superb itself is not exceeded the 100kg towbar can carry 100kg and it is allowed to do so.

The Thule EuroClassic G6 LED 928 is a very good bike carrier. Personaly i prefer Atera, but you can't go wrong with Thule.
