Laser allignment - Northern Ireland

Featured Replies

Hi my rear tyres are wearing in the inside only and also my fronts are in need of replacing. anyone know a good place to get my allignment done once i have had my tyres replaced. I plan to get new fronts and rotate them to the rear then have the allignment carried out. Is there a difference between 4 wheel laser alignment and just wheel alignment from kwik fit??

Also i have found continenal 225/40r18 92y for £137 a piece with kwik fit online, sound like a good deal?

Will i have to let the garage know the new values of -1°20' ± 30' or is this something they should be aware of?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There are no doubt a number of places that do full 4 wheel alignment in NI, as you're in Antrim I assume somewhere like this isn't too far away: central tyres but a google search will no doubt bring up plenty more or other forum discussions. There are various methods of 4 wheel alignment, but the Hunter laser equipment is meant to be some of the best: Hunter.

The differences between a Kwik Fit alignment (for around £25) and a full 4 wheel job (£60-100) is that the standard algnment just does the front wheels, and while this is the most important area a full 4 wheel alignment carried out properly is better still, both in terms of handling and the common issues of uneaven tyre wear and 'saw toothing' (that end up costing you more longer term in new tyres)

The only thing to watch out for is the differences in rear camber angles, as there are both historical differences in terms of VAG recommended settings and what people think are the best (particularly for a vRS). It confuses me if I'm honest, but a search on here will come up with some of the discussions and numbers you need and that you can then discuss with whatever garage you use (they should have their own databases, particularly if they use the Hunter system, but these can be tweeked).

Finally, the price for the tyres you mention (Sport Contact 3's I assume?) is indeed a good one - Kwik Fit's online prices are far better than the walk in ones and can match some of the cheapest mobile fitter prices. I'd used the Sport Contact 3's for a few years and had always been happy with their grip and stopping power, but when I needed a couple last month and was about to get them from Kwik Fit I changed my mind at the last minute and got the slightly cheaper Uniroyal Rainsport 2's (£120 I think), and I'm very glad I did. They are quiter than the Conti's (actually Uniroyal is owned by Continental I think), and seem to have a lot more grip, particularly around bends, plus of course they are one of the best tyres for wet roads, so you may want to add them to your short list

Don't go as far as this guy did !

Charles Hurst Tyres, Boucher Road, Belfast.

You cant go too far wrong as they do all the Ferrari, Bentley, Jaguar and Aston Martin delerships on their site too.

Modern tyres in Antrim just over the level crossing used to be my preferred they can haggle too never had any problems.
