Servicing and brakes - Dealer or Kwik Fit?

Recommended Posts

Hi, apologies if these questions have been answered elsewhere.....

I have a 04 Superb (1.9Tdi) which has done 62000 miles and I'm getting a message saying service needed. I have been quoted £307 by the local Skoda dealer - and I think that seems quite expensive. Kwik Fit is quoting £165 - £185 for a fixed price service. my qustion is this - would the Kwik Fit option be ok - is there anything Skoda would do which Kwik Fit wouldn't?

I will also need to get new front brake discs and pads fitted too - again quite pricey at the Skoda dealer (£211 for non-genuine parts) - I'm sure kwik fit would be cheaper for the brakes too.

my last service was (i think) 2 years ago - and they changed the cam belt then. My budget is tight - so I'd be very grateful for any advice.

Neither - Take it to an independent VAG specialist. Not sure where you live but if you post on here i am sure someone will be able to tell you somewhere local to you that is good.

I forgot to add - I've become a bit wary of my local Dealer as they phoned me up and tried to get me to agree to changing the cambelt (during MOT last year) - when they had already done it the year before..... (Does this mean they just didnt check the records to see it had been done already - or did it not get done and i got charged anyway.....??) I also had a bit of a falling out with them over water ingress...... (interior lights failed) - i had to get Skoda Uk involved to get things sorted out... But they left my car full of water for over a week until Skoda UK got involved. I live in Newcastle upon Tyne.

having asked the question - I thought it might be useful to other members to know I found an independant VAG garage in Newcastle upon Tyne which has given me a good deal and excellent service - http://www.swiftmotorengineering.co.uk/ I would be happy to recommend them based my experience so far (which was short but sweet!!)
