dsg issue in manual mode VRS CR FL

Featured Replies

Have a real problem with DSG gearbox in manual mode.

Started in early May at under 5000 miles, as ambient air temperature increased.

From cold start in morning / evening when in traffic under light braking normally at very low speeds, when throttle re-applied gearbox disengages without warning.

Engine revs but no drive. Gear indicator stills shows in 4th generally. By selecting auto mode or lower gear in manual mode drive re-engages.

When it happened the first time, thought that I had made a mistake. I have since monitored on a daily / weekly basis, as when car reaches normal running temperature, the problem did not reoccur. Now only run in auto mode, unless checking if problem still exists. Can reproduce more or less on a daily basis.

Has put me in a few potentially dangerous situations, as always occurs at roundabouts / junctions and evasive action has been required to prevent an accident.

Car was booked into local dealer on 20/05 pm. Car set up on diagnosis equipment.Gearbox Software updated. Told to check if problem resolved. Within 2 days gearbox issue returned. Did not go back to dealer due to time constraints.

Went to Scotland at end of June 1600 mile trip. Only used in auto no problem

Took to supplying dealer Progress Letchworth on 10/8, who have always provided excellent service. (Fixed 4 month seat issue in 30 minutes. Changed drivers seat.)

Progress test drove car several times and reproduced problem on each occasion. Contacted Skoda UK Tecnical for help. Carried out oil test and sent date to them. Nothing shows on diagnosis. Skoda UK passed to Factory for advice. Returned loan car on 16/8 and collected my car.

Factory have requested dealer to test another DSG Vrs CR car, test in same conditions and report on findings. Have been in contact with Skoda UK Customer Service, who informed me that they will monitor situation. Appears to be an unknown problem, so a process of elimination.

Already travelled nearly 800 miles so far for warranty issues.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Think it`s going to take a long time to fix.

Oh dear, that's not sounding good. Sounds like you're beginning to exhaust the dealer avenues of resolution too!

From what you say, it sounds to me that the fault could be down to the mechatronics unit for the DSG. This is a sophisticated control unit that handles both electronic and hydraulic functions within the 'box. There's quite a good reference article here, for your info: http://www.my-gti.com/832/volkswagen-dsg-mechatronic-control-unit

No such problem with my DSG.

Under these circs I think I'd be a little less understanding than you.

Good luck.
