VRS exhaust

Featured Replies

Hello all, could do with some opinions or advice, the centre mount on my exhaust has been mullered for a while but has been secured with jubilee clips, now it is blowing quite badly, so do I:

1.Get genuine centre section.

2.Get centre section from a motor factors.

3.Find good condition used exhaust.

4.Get aftermarket system.

If anybody has done any of the above how did it go?

Thanks.

Phil.

Aftermarket, but if your goign for free flow etc etc, just bare in mind you need a certain amount of back pressure else your turbo lifes will be shortened.

like ive had an aftermarket custom made Catback exhaust and truly sounds rather tasty but not too loud, im going to go for a aftermarket free flowing downpipe but then have a sports cat on to keep the back pressure.

Plus also so many places do aftermarket stainless steel exhausts with a lifetime guarantee

Standard exhaust broken? what better an excuse do you need

After market defo, BlueFlame,Milltek,Piper or custom made ie powerflow or as i call them power****!!

Get one of them centre sections off ebay that does away with centre section and box, just cut backbox to suit and slide it on, think there only 30 quid,

Or you could put a nice new stainless system on from cat back but you will be adding a zero to above price

I'm in the same boat. I was thnking of bodging something together, using a ebay 2.5" downpipe welded on to my cat, a pipe replacing the knackered centre box, and re-using the OEM backbox.

What does everyone reckon?

I think the downpipe will go better with the 200 cel sports cat I've got in my garage which is surplus to requirements :giggle:

ijust bought a milltek cat back system (non resonated) it looks the nuts and sounds sweet! it cost £375 and i fitted it easily myself.

Who told you that? :giggle:

As long as you dont go any bigger than 3" on a downpipe you will be fine.

With a larger diameter downpipe your turbo will spool up quicker as there's no resistance.

I will be watching this thread closely because I'm also looking to change the exhaust turbo back!

I'm thinking cheap eBay down pipe and decat, welding in a 200 cel cat, then sticking a miltek or equivalent cat back on!

Question is are the cheap eBay bits false economy?

Ps sorry for slight hijack :)

Mines a miltek non red cat bk, eBay downpipe with the choice of either a 200 cel sports cat or de cat (had them made so I could swap and change)

 from me with no complaints

@tin0 where you based? Mine could be up for grabs soon

@sivrs thanks for that info on eBay goodies! I'm based in the north east but travel all over with work! How soon is yours possibly up for grabs and where you based? :)

Cheers for replies, think I'll have a look at some cat back systems, ideally something that looks pretty standard but a bit louder nothing too silly though as I start work at 5 and my neighbours probably wont like it.

after a bit of looking around i have managed to find a non resonated Jetex system with the oval tip for £260. anyone ever used the jetex system? any feedback?

SOD THE NEIGHBOURS lol

they have double glazing.

Personally Id have one custom made with a lifetime warrenty. That way any trouble you just call up and they sort it. Also you can have it as loud or as silent as you want plus you can have it sitting spot on un like the off the shelf ones which have to be made with some tollerences and the ones Ive seen hang low so the back box is seen. mine was tucked right up so its out of sight, took a few attemps to get it right but now its all sweet.

No good keeping the std cat. thats THE most restrictive part on the system followed by the DP. I had a 200 cel cat on the std DP and a 2.5" system which had a restrictive section over the rear beam and it was much better till the custom remap then it was a prob,

I then put a Neuspeed (copy) TIP on and it made it bit smoother. then I had a 2.5" DP put on again an improvement. Then Ive just had the restrictive part swapped for a true 2.5" section and its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. and the sound is nice too.

dont bother waisting money on a std one again as the middle bracket will only break.

2.5" is all thats needed for a small 1.8 a friend who owned a car company used a 2.5" system on his car that had the VXR engine in it and that was 300+bhp so I think for our car its enogh.

I think the Octy is a little awkward for exhaust noise. Resonated you aren't going to get much sound over stock, non resonated is a fair bit louder. Ideally I'd have something in between.

If you are worried about the neighbours then avoid a Piper. I love mine but apparently when I fired it up once alongside my neighbours house their daughter asked "what is wrong with the house daddy"! Apparently it resonates a bit :giggle: Sounds good though!

Hi

Jetex do 2 types of exhausts

One is mild steel and one is stainless

Stainless is the one that is better quality and will last longer

i know that a company pn Ebay has been doing them for the Fabia and can do the Octy too

Good quality exhausts and have less problems than other makes listed on this thread

Contacted a couple of local custom exhaust companies, hopefully wont come back with any silly money quotes, be interesting to see how they compare to off the shelf exhaust prices

Just to add to the thread, I rang TPS and they quoted £200 for the backbox and £70 for the centre section. Plus the government's fee of course :wonder:

I've got the resonated jetex on mine attached to a de-cat. Good quality and sounds a little louder than OEM. Personally i would go with the non resonated if I had to buy again. The tail pipe looks similar to the OEM exhaust too and fits nicely in the rear bumper slot.

Here's my youtube clip i made:

I have a single box Jetex system fitted with a 200 cell (Jetex) sports cat fitted and I would say it's only slightly louder than a standard system.

I had a Milltek twin box system before but it broke around the back box where the over axle pipe joined it, the company I bought it from has gone down the pan and I couldn't find the original receipt, answer from Milltek "without either then we can't do anything", even though I quoted the part No's from the system and back box

I tried getting it welded (Forge Motorsport  ) but no joy :'( .

I ordered the non-resonated system from them the same day (3 pm) and it arrive by 9am the following morning, had it fitted by 12pm (happy bunny).

Unfortunately someone mentioned to me about getting a cheap sports cat that was on flea-bay which I duly won and was fitted within a couple of days  .

This same person then mentioned he knew of someone doing cheap (quality) re-maps, me having the breaking strain of a Kit-Kat fell for it and went for it, result, one very happy 48 year old with a bog standard looking Octy VRS (I even have a tow bar on the back!) that takes the smiles off the faces of many Max-Power boys and some very expensive BMW-Merc drivers

there was a few bits of smoker there wasnt there? a fair bit of waster too.

sounds nice, really nice shine on it too..

They look like factory as well, so from behind unless you know it looks like standard

I cleaned the tailpipe before taking the video :giggle:

Its a straight through system so there will be a fair amount of unburnt fuel.
