Intake air tempreature sensor (Felecia 1.6)

Featured Replies

Hi,

Where is the air intake sensor located?

I have just used VDCS Lite (excellent software) to look at all the values of sensors etc. and it reports the intake air temperature as 88 degrees (which can't be right!)

I am assuming that the intake air temperature should read about the same as the ambient air temperature if the engine is cold.

Thanks

Peter

The intake temperature sensor is combined with the map sensor in one unit, it's on the drivers side end of the intake manifold... Sadly they are quite expensive to buy new but you should be able to get one quite cheap from a breaker, it's the same map sensor in a 6n polo.. If i recall it's a 4mm Allen to remove it but don't quote me on that!! Be careful not to do up the bolt too tight because they are a self tapping type into a plastic manifold

As a matter of interest which measuring block/group were you looking at to get this? Sometimes the label files for certain engine types are wrong in vcds/vagcom... It may well be that the block you were looking at is for the coolant sensor.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply, I think it was group 2 but I will have to look again.

I did wonder if it might have had an incorrect label.

I think my problems actually stem from an exhaust leak between the engine and O2 sensor - I will test later

Peter

If there is an exhaust leak before or near the oxygen sensor it can cause a whole massive running problems, mainly that it thinks it's running too lean all the time, and will show an 'adaption limit reached' fault for fuel trim...

whats that foil tubing you have have in the picture??? mine never had that

Hot air intake from across the exhaust manifold.

Hot air intake from across the exhaust manifold.

exactly right, there is steel plate bolted to the top of the exhaust manifold with a tube attachment, this feeds warm air collected from over the manifold to a pipe on the bottom of the airbox... inside the airbox is a waxstat operated flap which feeds a mixture of warm/cold air into the engine. on really cold mornings it helps the engine run better.. it does not have to be fitted and there is little or no effect from it being removed, it's not really cold enough in this country for it take make a massive effect..

good nothing serious, okay and now i know about the hot air intake thing i don't have to worry about taking it out when i fit the induction kit to the missus fabia.

it's the same carbon fibre sealed kit that you have seen on my Felicia that i intend to fit,

I know it doesn't really make cars faster, but on the fabia the airbox system is quite extensive so i reckon there is a weight loss benefit instead. gives extra space in the engine bay too.

ha i wouldn't bother to be honest, unless taking the airbox out is going to remove about 300Kg.. just drill some gert big holes in the base of the airbox if you want it to be noisy and save yourself some money

my car with it's induction kit isn't any noisier, i don't have that induction raw on my car as i don't like it.

It's simply takes a chuck of plastic out of the engine bay and leaves and easy to fit and maintain(clean air filter)

i have done it to almost every car i own. except the mercedes which had a big round intake system
