Is this pipe deformed?!

Featured Replies

OK so probably a really daft question but I was having a poke around under the engine cover and spotted this odd shaped pipe.

Is it meant to be like that?!

Also while I'm asking daft questions, the big section of tube here.

Should it be really soft and squidgy? It seems to be in good condition but I was surprised how easily it squashed down when you squeezed it. You can also see another view of the pipe mentioned above.

Sorry for the stupid questions!

its shaped like that mate so it avoids other pipes and cables.

the Y shaped one should be soft but I dont think the one thats circled is soft?

Ah ok, all as it should be then! Thanks!

I should really have a bit of a clean up in there as it is a little grimy!

I changed them pipes for ones off creation motorsport, there breather pipes

its shaped like that mate so it avoids other pipes and cables.

Are you sure billy, after saying Lees exhaust was meant to be dented don't know if I should trust you now ;)

lol, well it looks the same as mine.

so too did the DP as Ive also found 2 more that are the same which makes 4 all identical from different places.

but that pipe there in the bay is correct.

As said above, that bottom breather hose IS supposed to be shaped like that, and the top Y pipe is supposed to be squishy to a point. If when you squeeze it, it takes a little while to gain it's shape back (as if it's sticky internally) then chances are the rubber has broken down and it is perished. In this case it won't be long before it will develop a hole.

Both of these pipes are notorious for breaking down, and I guarantee that they will eventually perish. The top one has a tendency to split at the seams of the Y joint, and the bottom one has a tendency to go hard and crack.

These are both best replaced by modern silicon alternatives IMO. The bottom one however, is a b!tch to fit (or rather, the clips on the existing hose are a b!tch to remove).

If you intend to keep the car for any great length of time, you WILL be replacing these hoses sometime soon, unless they are already relatively new.
