For those with a PD160 intake pipe

Featured Replies

I decided to clean my engine bay up a bit today, since I have never done it before. I nipped to Halfords and grabbed some AG Engine & Machine Cleaner, left the engine to cool for about an hour and then went at it.

Anyway, whilst cleaning I decided to see if I could un-retro-mod a few things  I have the PD160 intake, and this rubs against one of those hoses. It's been posted on here before - I think someones rubbed all the way through and the hose started leaking. I had taped some lovely green foam around the hose to stop it rubbing in the past.

I think I stumbled across a really simple solution though - only took a couple of years. Simply unclip this from the hose on the other side:

Twist it around, and clip it on to the hose that would rub against the intake:

It does mean that the other hose is now free to move around, but I couldn't see that one being free causing any harm...?

I had also gaffa taped up the hole which is left from doing the CCV mod. It did the job, but it was a bit unsightly. I popped to B&Q and grabbed 22mm plastic chair leg end cover things. I left the connector part on, so if you remove this connector you probably want something more like 24/25mm. Fits over it perfectly. I now need to get me some black cable ties and black 19mm oil hose (not sure where from?) so I can get rid of the washing machine pipe for the CCV hose :giggle:

It's not super clean, but much better than before :) I need to get some of that plastic / vinyl / rubber treatment stuff to go over all the plastics still.

That's all.

Good work on the clean up, I may have a look at that clip for moving the hose out the way of intake altho its currently cable tied and i think it looks ok... still not checked to see if its stopped it from rubbing.

What FMIC do you have fitted SS?

I ran mine for a week(?) without doing anything way back when it was fitted, and it had rubbed noticeably. Worth checking up to see how it is me thinks. Cable tie should work I would think?

Yeah it is the SS. Father had a go at spraying the top part of it black when we fitted it to try and help blend in... didn't really work. It really needs some wire wool scrubbing action lol

Ran mine for 5 years before I got round to cable-tieing it  . It's rubbed noticeably, but nowhere near through it.
