Hi guys and girls, had my vrs a few weeks now and have had a few issues or questions that I need answers to...

1. When I finish a journey should I leave the car to tick over before I stop engine?

2. My engine management light has come on and when it was checked out it was two things, there is a difference in pressure of the air leaving intercooler and entering turbo? And a mixture problem with the fuel. How worried should I be about these as the garage says its a common problem.

3. Most worryingly perhaps, after 450 miles of ownership the oil light came on this morning after a while, beeped and flashed so I pulled over and checked oil level and restarted engine and oil light was off, so I sheepishly drove home and rechecked oil and level was definitely correct. Its just had an oil and filter change by a ve specialist who assured me the oil was correct grade. The light just flashes rather than being on all the time. What could this be and how would I best remedy this?

4. ASR light comes on and dissapears when I turn ignition off. The switch on dash does not affect it when it comes on.

Many thanks in advance

Ben

1. Most people just recommend taking it gently for the last couple of miles of the journey.

2. Not sure - possibly a leaking joint in your boost pipework, or maybe a faulty MAF or MAP sensors.

Fuel mixture - no idea!

3. Red or Orange oil light?

If Orange that might mean your level is a little on the low side. Red is pressure which would be much more concerning and could possibly cause oil starvation to your turbo.

4. ASR should default to being on (light on the dash is off), and you need to press the switch on the dash each time when you start the car to turn it off (and that should make the light on the dash come on).

With regards to 1:, if she's still hot, then yes. More important with a turbo at the end of the oil pressure chain though, is to steer well clear of revving for the first 30 seconds or so after starting it.

The oil light is worrying, it's usually a symptom of a blocked oil pick up pipe in the sump. Have it looked at sooner rather than later, the last thing you need is an oil starved top end.

The mixture fault often accompanies the pressure drop fault, often caused by split vacuum pipes adjacent to the dip stick.

For the ASR fault, you'll need to get the ABS system read for fault codes. ASR works by momentarily limiting the power that the engine produces. It could be down to the mixture fault.
