gearbox problem

Featured Replies

I think ive got a problem with my gearbox. it sounds like a rally car with a destinct whine whilst accelerating through the gears. any ideas what the problem could be?

Well rally cars make that noise through dog gears and chain drives so unless you have had that installed I think you have an issue.

When was the last time you checked the gearbox oil? Clutch feel alright? Does the sounds go the faster you get or is it all the time?

I can't see it being syncro meshes or broken gears because it would struggle to get in gear/sound bloody awful! I reckon it will be more oil issues tbh.

Is there any clunking coming from the wheels at the same time?

I have to say the issue is prob the diff failing Common problem

do a search and you will find plenty of info

p.s could you put up a sound clip on here for us to listen to???

i have had the car looked at and there is massive play in the cv joints, when you hold the drive shaft you can rotate the wheel at least 15 degrees before it turns the drive shaft. there is no clicking and clunking though, nothing on left or right hand lock.

the noise only seems to be in first gear on acceleration and decelleration. ive been told it could be the pinion.

i am not sure what to do, i could change the cv joints and then end up having for shell out for a recon gearbox. im thinking about just selling it to be honest.
