Howdo - mk1 or 2 VRS

Featured Replies

Hello folks,

I'm John and I have, yet again, got fed up with my Focus TDCI and I am on the lookout for an Octavia VRS. I am torn between looking for a late, lowish mile mk1 1.8 that I can be in within a couple of months or waiting until bonus month and buying a newer TFSI. The spec of the newer ones is more along the lines of what I am after (I would like Xenons, PDC, DAB, etc) but spec is not everything as long as I can have climate and 4x electric windows.

I am assuming that the 180 1.8T can be mapped easily enough to the same levels as a standard 2.0 TFSI, but then that latterly could give even more.

Are there lots to recommend the mk1?

What's the standard suspension set up like and do they benefit from a set of Eibachs or similar?

Thanks for reading and apologies if I should (but can't) post this elsewhere.

John

hi and welcome

to be honest i have had mk1's they are a great car but i have had 2 mk2's my latest being the 170bhp tdi and i rate the mk2 100% more than the mk1's

mk2's are an easy buy i got mine on a heavy discount becaus ethe dealer bought 4 tdi vrs's at the same time and wanted rid so i had 4.500 of the price lucky me but bargains are out there to be had the suspension is ok but if you are driving at high Speed (naughty) then uprated suspension would be a benefit as vrs can become very light and twitchy

I've driven both, and I would go for the mark II .. the main reason being I really didn't like the handling of the mark I , was to wallowy and soft for me... I have been in some really well sorted modded mark I's, but the standard set up is too soft for me ... my opinion :)

Morning all,

Still considering the mkI mainly because they seem such good value. I would like a mkII but budget doesn't stretch as far as a near new one (or even a new one as and when they are VAT free at dealers).

I've had a read through the buyers guide elsewhere in the forums and will have a search to see if there is anything alarming to note about the mkI - the last thing I want is to buy one and for it to go pop.
