DSG Paddles

Featured Replies

A few questions really:

1 Does anyone know if the airbag in the 4 spoke multifunction wheel is the same size and fitting as that in the 3 spoke wheel with paddles;

2 Would I need to recode the car to recognise the paddles if I swapped wheels; and

3 Has anyone swapped the wheels on a superb ii yet?

I'm going to do this. Have ordered a 3-spoke MFSW with DSG-paddles.

The airbag is the same, and Yes you must use VCDS and configure to be able to use the paddles.

I have a Superb II 200 (2.0) TSI DSG 2011, today with 4-spoke MFSW without paddles (because my dealer misunderstood me and ordered the car with 4-spoke w/o paddles when I wanted 3-spoke with paddles).

Yes the 3 Spoke is the same size as the 4 Spoke and as long as you have DSG then you shouldn't need to code the paddles (unless you don't have them already in which case you will)

Gizmo bought a vRS 3 Spoke DSG MFSW off me and it fitted to his Superb Mk2 no problem at all

Be carefull before you remove any modern steering wheel, a number have a "Clock Spring" which is used to transfer the electrial signals from the steering wheel to the car. If you are not carfull we removing the steering wheel, the clock spring unwinds and you are gubbed.

I dont know if the Superb has one or not be check first.

I have had this happen to me in the bus industry and not nice.

Do you mind me asking how much the wheel cost, and whether the dealer has quoted for fitting etc?

So the VRS wheel fits the same airbag as well?

Yes the Octavia 3 Spoke MFSW DSG does.

Neither the Octavia or the Superb have a clock spring as mentioned above.

You can swap both wheels in literally 10mins including swapping airbags.

Sounds great. Does anybody know what I need to do with VCDS/Vag-Com?

I'm going to pick up a micro can lead from ross-tech when I go on hols to the US shortly.

Yes as Carl has said I have a 3 spoke MFSW (now minus the DSG paddles as mine is a manual box) in my Superb, I used the same airbag and it really is a piece of cake to fit,

Sounds good. Anything to watch when swapping the airbag, or is it best left to a dealer?

Just make sure you disconnect the battery first and you will be fine

Certainly does not 'need' a dealer to do it

Thanks for that. I've always preferred to do mods myself, but am just a bit wary when it comes to air bags!

Don't disconnect the battery, release the fuse for the airbag instead.

If you do that you will need VCDS to clear the fault code as the Airbag light will come up on the dash.

It is easier to just disconnect the battery, swap the wheel over and when the car does it's start up checks as far as it's concerned the Airbag hasn't moved.

No fault codes, and besides, if you want to activate DSG paddles you still need VCDS. But I have KESSY, so I don't need to turn on the ignition to be able to turn the steering wheel, maybe that's why I didn't get any fault codes.

Does anyone have an idiots guide to swapping them?

At some point I'd like to do this, my wheel isn't quite right, and while I'll try sort that on the warranty. But I like the 3 spoke one on the Passat better, and I wouldn't mind playing with paddles at some point.

I doubt you know anything about steering wheel clock_spring's ..... It will for sure not unwind.
