Doesnt stop people using them but if you get pulled you'll get a fine if you do. Get stopped a number of times and you'll lose your reg number and have to reapply for one.

There was a custom plate designer on ebay where

I bought my set for about £20 recently.

You can use the online designer and even upload your own pics

for no extra cost.

Here it is

And If I remember rightly they can seize the car if you keep getting caught for the same offence

Funny you should say that, I was watching one of the 'Police, camera, kill' programs the other night and they seized a 206 for having metal black plates.

They're fine for shows of corse but it's an offence for them to be on the car while it is on the road, being driven or otherwise.

eBay is always a good option for the plates. I bought a pair of show plates which were in fact just standard road plates without e markings for my car. They passed the MOT without any issue and I didn't have to worry about faffing around with insurance documents etc to get them made up.

The police take a pretty dim view of people displaying non standard plates on cars. Minimum fine would be £30 non endorsable. If you get a picky traffic officer I would think they would go to town on you as it's one of their pet hates.
