Too many chavs with no brains are buying cheap Furby diesels now. Just watch the premiums for these go through the roof very soon.

The new 306 TurboD?

and watch out for newly laid road surfaces, as they're super slippery when wet,

+1 on the new road surfaces - they've done loads of the roundabouts round here - great for drifting, I mean. . . best take them slowly! ;):D

I don't appreciate being called an 'idiot' for stating that he's a muppet for bragging about driving like a tit.

In the same block of text that he said he has killed his car by driving at inappropriate speeds / manner for the conditions, he also stated he beat a VXR racing on the public highway and got up to 139mph (TWICE the national speed limit).

It is not acceptable to race on the public highway. Full stop. It is not legal in any other country either, yes, there are derestricted parts of motorways in other countries, however if you got caught behaving like that on them, they would do you for dangerous driving, impound your car and lock you up.

I stick with my original comment. He's a muppet. Glad he didn't kill himself or especially anyone else.

Sorry but that is like chinese whispers, the op said he ran at 139 against a vxr, he did not mention the public highway. From the terminology (ran at) I would say he could have been at a track or drag strip. Even so it would be daft running at those speeds on dodgy tires, or maybe the tires are the op's excuse to himself for the off?

I think he lost as well.

He also said "last night", implying late (rather than, say, afternoon/evening) when tracks may well be closed off due to noise limits, particularly during the week? Lots of things can be inferred from what he said, but since he didn't even go to the effort of mentioning it being "on a track" or "on a private road" then chances are it was on the road. No one can prove it, but it's probably not the sort of thing you should be admitting to in a crash thread either way, even if nothing happens it adds a complication to the claim while they stall and I'm sure the OP wants it to be settled ASAP.

Too many chavs with no brains are buying cheap Furby diesels now. Just watch the premiums for these go through the roof very soon. The OP is clearly not a full schilling, and is lucky he wasnt being shovelled into a bodybag. Bragging about racing too and at an alledged 139 on the public highway? He lost his mind?

They are already through the roof! It has cost me nearly £900 to insure my vRS this year - I love my car but I'm getting to the point where I'm wondering if it's worth keeping.

Since I ride large capacity motorcycles you may safely infer that I have been known to exceed the speed limit on the odd occasion when I judged it safe to do so, as I have aged I have undeniably slowed down a little although I'm still more than capable of having occasional 'brain out' moments when I'm certain I won't be caught, with nine points on my licence frankly that's my over-riding concern.

The issue here is not what the OP did, it's more that he lacked the sense to keep it quiet, since he is obviously sorely in need of experience and better judgement.

The other issue is the utter brainlessness of those willing to speculate and theorise in an effort to justify the OP's public stupidity, if you are in some way moved to empathise with this kid then it is because you are knee-jerking to the realisation that YOU also drive like this kid and the common criticism implicit in this thread FEELS like it could just as easily be directed at you, therefore you rail to his defence. Stop it. I, for one do not want to encourage people like this to participate in an online self-help community, their stupidity should embarrass and shame us all.

Who the bloody hell do you think you are?

People where quoting the guy as saying he was on a public highway, that is simply untrue, it was never stated.

Many members on here have raced their cars on tracks and maxed out their cars on the autobahn, members whose opinion and comment I would value a damned sight more than yours.

If he didn't say it, then no one could have quoted him, and you can't say it's untrue any more than we can say it's true. He's now deleted his original post so maybe a mod should pop along and tidy up a bit, but while his post was there, then the fact it's a discussion forum means that obviously we're going to talk about the topic that he started including his statement that he "ran 139mph against a VXR". It's kind of what a forum exists for, and by posting a thread with the content he did, it should have been completely obvious what would happen if the OP had a wee bit of common sense. Shrug.

Semantics, I was referring to the fact that people where """"Quoting""" a post that was never made. And for your info his original statement is quoted in post 3. If people only deemed to read the entire thread before replying!

[/i].

The OP never stated any such thing, and now he has edited his post any insurer/ police looking could well take this post as gospel, which would be totally unjust to the OP muppet or not.

I've read the thread. Post 3 does indeed include his original statement, where public highways aren't mentioned. So no one has directly quoted him saying he was racing on a highway. We've quoted him, and we've discussed the circumstances which lead us to believe he was on the highway. But no one quoted him saying he was on a highway, we've only used a combination of the OPs original words (which he willingly used when he posted the thread) and added a separate discussion element. I wasn't aware that was a problem on a discussion forum?

You are right in that now the original post has gone it alters the tone of all the later posts, that's why I suggested a minute ago that maybe a moderator should clean the thread up (before you decided to moan about me not reading the whole thread). It should probably go in the bin tbh, it's not exactly productive anymore (not that it was very to start with, IMO)

edit - I suppose my point, or part of it, is that maybe people could use more common sense when posting on forums. They're not closed communities, and the content isn't private. Some details should be saved for your mates on Facebook...

Are you sure you have read the thread?

Sorry but if you read the quote from Benjamin in my post above, Benjamin says the op stated he was on a public highway. If that isn't quoting something that as never been posted then I don't know what is. If by saying directly quoting him you mean using the forum quote box, then like I said, semantics.

Until the original post was removed, anyone reading the thread would read Benjamin's post (which wasn't an actual forum quote), read the original post to find evidence of this fact from the OP, and realise that what Benjamin was saying was untrue. Now the original post has gone, they can no longer do that, hence my comment about a mod tidying the thread up as some posts have now changed context. Benjamin's is one of them, there are probably others.

edit - looks like as an honorary member, you can edit without an "Edited by..." notice appearing. Sneaky ;)

I don't necessarily mean that the forum quote box is the be all and end all. Anyone wanting to use this thread as any kind of evidence wouldn't take quotes into account whether they were

or not. The original post would have to be intact to provide any kind of corroboration, the rest is just discussion.

Is this the right thread for an argument?

What amazes me is that this goes on and on... while an amusing clip of a convertible failing to overtake a golf on video (from the general section) got pulled before I could even get the link. :( And it was amusing!

My point was the chinese whispers, before long someone will post that the guy had the accident at 139 mph whilst racing, and in this country there is deffinatley a progression towards guilty until proven innocent. IMO the entire thread should be deleted.

Woohoo can I really edit my posts with no one knowing B)

Believe it or not I used to be able to edit your posts without anyone knowing as well :D

I figured, from your honorary status and "Mod (Ret'd)" usertext. But I'm sure you were carefully chosen from the masses for your ability to not make people look like idiots on a forum and leave them to do it themselves ;)

Fixed that for you :D
