Camshaft locking

Featured Replies

Can anybody advise me where to get a locking bracket for a 1.9TDi ASV engine camshaft ?

Haynes describes the Skoda 3418 tool and a locking pin (for injection pump ?), but I can't find anything for sale online.

There is a laser tool 1868 that looks similar but is not described as a replacement for the 3418, and there

is the 3327 which looks nothing like the tool in the haynes manual, but laser list it as a replacement for the 3418 - if

it is, how on earth does it work ? It claims to be possible to lock the shaft without removing the vacuum pump from the end

with the slot in it ?

Any help appreciated, this is all to solve a nightmare of a problem whereby I dropped a nut into the top of the engine...

When I change my belt, I just line up the marks at then gearbox end, and then lock the injector pump with either a 5mm drill bit, or now that my father has a lathe a specially made pin.

Before removing the belt, I mark it up using tipex for the 3 important wheels. I then slacken off the tensioner, remove the belt, transfer the markings to the new belt and refit. Never any need to drop any nuts down the top of the engine. I have a magazine article which covers this (based on a mk4 Golf but same applies to the Octy).
