Is £160 expensive for a service on a MK1 VRS?

Featured Replies

From what i gather they have had very good reviews from people who have had work done there.

I don't know whether i trust any old garage doing the service. Would prefer a Specialist..

Any advice?

Go to Unit 18 near Milton Keynes if thats close. Even if its not its worth it. A nearly 3 hour round trip for me and i wont go anywhere else now!

Vrs in northampton is a VAG specialist and they charge £99+vat.

Whats included in the £160 service mate?

Whats included in the £160 service mate?

Filters, oil change, parts and VAT.

Pretty much everything...

The place is called Midland VW

In short, that seems very expensive for an oil and filters service.

I can buy a service pack for £40 and DIY that in an hour so that means you're being charged at least £100 an hour in labour.

I'd shop around.

have you tried the new skoda dealer in stourbridge? they are on here. I had a two year service plan for £199 which includes a brake fluid change too. That was at Savilles at Mustow green though.

That's what my local Skoda garage charge but if you sign up for their free loyalty program it comes down to £140 including MOT. Don't discount the main dealers, they seem to be getting better, both in price and service

Without knowing what's actually included on the £160 service mentioned it's impossible to judge whether it's good value or not. e.g. When you say "filters" does that mean just the oil filter or the air and pollen filters too?

There are issues with the Skoda official service plan - despite being sold it on the basis of it covering "standard manufacturer's service requirements" the small print on mine suggests the second service is only going to be an oil change one not the full inspection service. Whether I have a battle with them on it depends whether I actually keep the car until the second service is due. Mine cost £299 and paid for the £285 40,000 mile service recently - and I also got £100 of parts vouchers with it (so a net cost of £199) which went towards the cambelt replacement.

It might have been £299 actually, cant quite remember. Mine said oil and filter changes with polllen filter (if needed) and a brake fluid change. My 1st had all of the above done, and a thorough check and greased moving parts. My next service will just be oil and filter i guess.

Give Midland VW a bell. I'm off there tomorrow: they know VAG cars inside out, reasonable labour rates, great service. Only a short drive from Wolves.

A car driven less than 10k per year will require an Inspection Service every year.

I do service it every year/10k miles. Oil an filter changed, only the pollen filter if needed.

An inspection service is more than an oil and filter change...

+1 been there a few times and they provide a very good service with a in-depth inspection not just a simple oil change that most garage do. Very knowledgable people's.
