17704 Error code

Featured Replies

About a month ago I scanned the car with my VAGCOM to check all was well and had a 17704 code stored. Car was running fine etc so I just cleared it and carried on using it. On Monday the engine warning light decided to come on when the other half was driving. Scanned the car with VAGCOM and got the same 17704 code. Cleared the code again and light went out. Ordered a new (genuine) green coolant sensor aswell just in case. The light came back on again yesterday (Thursday)but everything is still fine with the car. Will be fitting new sensor tomorrow but Im confused as to why Im not experiencing any problems? Temp gauge sticks at 90, car starts immediately etc. Should I not be noticing something different like poor starting and low MPG/overheating etc????

Check the wiring to the plug - too many owners yank on the wiring and damage the plugs.

I've got a car here which needs a new engine loom because the previous owner removed several plugs without releasing the catch :S He just yanked them off :(

Thanks, will check wiring tonight just in case.

Fitted the new sensor last night. Lost half a cup of antifreeze during the change :wonder: . Took car out and seems very different to drive. Smoother, less of an overboost perhaps? Checked antifreeze level this morning and is OK. Can you get an air lock from changing the sensor?

That is impressive going....although those plugs can sometimes be a pain to get off - even when you know what you are doing. I find the brake wear sensor one a pain, plus my offside headlight, but a previous owner had already broken the bit of the clip you have to press

Potentially yes. Haven't played with my coolant yet, but had to change a water pump on a 1.8T A4 before, and that was an absolute bitch to bleed. Took overnight to get rid of the air.
