Engine oil flush

Featured Replies

I have just done an engine oil and filter change on my Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDi PD car it is 2008 model, I used Millers XFE-PD 5w40 engine oil and a UFI filter element, after warming the engine up I drove the back wheels of the car on to 2 planks of wood to give it a slight incline forwards and used a suction pump through the dipstick hole to drain the oil. I got just under 4 litres out which is about right for this engine ( 3.8 litres full) after replacing the filter and oil I warmed the engine up to check for leaks, when I dipped the oil again it was black, it looked as if it had not had an oil change, now I know that diesel engines are not the cleanest of engines but is this normal? and would there be any advantage in using an engine flush oil next time or could running the engine with this in damage the engine, I am thinking with it being a PD engine.

The car has only done 30,000 miles and is on a fixed service using 505.01 spec oil.

Thanks

Hi I've just done mine as well, same model and year as you, I used Castrol edge 5w x 30 special offer at Asda so bought 2, I changed cabin filter, fuel and oil filter also used a dipstick pump silverline all bits OEM from firstforskoda on eBay , I've done 2,000 miles now after self service, will use engine flush next time and a can of BG 244 also I use redex regularly ;)

Do a google search for 'www.briskoda.net: pd oil flush' and read the threads in the Fabia I section - flushing the oil in a PD engine is NOT recommended, and apparantly does more harm than good.

The dealers here does engine flushes on the pd engine well they used to , the mechanic there did my octavia 1.9 glxi estate oh I love that car w reg

I remember Estate Man expaining here that the oil in a diesel engine will still be black after an oil change.

You changed the oil an oil filter why did you not change the fuel filter as well this should be done at every service also check your interior filter under the passenger side dash, it will be black as soot !!

Using engine flush on a PD engine is highly NOT recommended as it will wash oil off the cam lobes which drive the fuel pressure system and therefore vital to the operation of this type of engine.

Oil 'dipped' soon after a change and warm-up always looks dark straight away on a diesel due to the combustion process.

Yep...it's fine as the guys and girls are saying. And nope...as people are saying, don't do an engine flush on the PD unless there is a very very good reason. If you are quite concerned about it, change your oil again in say...2k. You will notice how much cleaner the oil stays to start with, but it will go black again quite quickly which is normal. If it doesn't then something is wrong, maybe using the wrong oil! Remember, the discolouration in diesel oil is not the same as the black discolouration in the oil in a petrol engine. In a petrol engine black oil is bad as it contains harsh gritty particules of carbon than wear out the engine. In diesel, the carbon is soft and not gritty. It doesn't cause wear or damage to the engine as it flows around, it just carries on lubricating. It won't clog your oil ways either as long as you just change the oil at recommended intervals and use the correct oil type. Enjoy! emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

I remember now did an engine flush as I was going from mineral to fully synthetic oil in the octavia, old age catching up with me ;)

HI Seb, and your 'w' reg wasn't PD either. Just TDI. Good engine though. emoticon-0144-nod.gif
