I made the effort to go straight to the tv without risking getting the result spoilt so I could watch the recording of the live broadcast this morning.

It seems that this years rule changes have been a bit more successful than previous attempts to make the results less predictable. Hopefully things will continue like this for the rest of the season.

One thing that I was wondering about , is what happens to the "one set of tyres for the weekend" rule if it starts raining. Obviously they would have to let them change then , but who decides when they can swap? Also what about punctures? Can they be fixed or does that just mean someones race is over?

For the interests of those who haven't yet seen the result , can we avoid discussion of the race in too much detail until after the repeat has aired.

In terms of tyres and getting punctures, the car can make a pit stop if the tyre is damaged and unsafe to race with. Afterwards if the tyre is deemed to be 'ok' by the marshalls there can be a penalty given.

Thats what I picked up from it all anyway. Could be totally wrong :o

Step in the right direction

Tyres

Drivers will have access to far fewer tyres in 2005 and will have to make a single set last through both qualifying sessions and the entire race. A tyre can only be changed during this time if it is punctured or damaged.

On Fridays, drivers will be able to test two different dry tyre compounds. Ahead of Saturday practice they must choose one of these for the remainder of the weekend. They will then be allocated three sets of this compound

I tend to think the weather change had more to do with it, than anything else!

I dislike this qualifying set up with a passion and the FIA need to get a shake to themselves. Also remember Ferrari still have last years car....

I wasn't so much thinking about the qualifying , more the way that in the race there were several teams all running at very similar paces and overtaking each other.

The changes in aerodynamics and engine design seems to have evened things up a lot so it will be more down to who drives best on the day , and the dual session qualifying should in theory mean that outside factors like rain have less of an effect with everyone having to be lucky/unlucky twice.
