Anyone thinking of EGR delete?

Featured Replies

Well as two members have had this issue I thought its going to be a common thing with the delete kit so thought I'd pre warn folk.

When blanking off the EGR pipe that feeds into the EGR valve don't blank it off at the top like the instructions supplied say see below

(this is where they say blank)

Well two days later and not many miles I had engine management light come on and on the way to the garage for it to be read I noticed there was a very odd chatter noise coming from under the bonnet on drivers side.

Upon inspection this was the problem; the very pipe I had blanked off (As instructed to)

So anyway a little further down you can undo two 12m copper nuts and blank it off there... much better I think.

Anyway thought I'd just warn people. Save destroying a perfectly good pipe :)

Seems a better way to do it if there is ample room :)

Yeah its really quick and lots of room to work, even had enuf room to get my chunky torque wrench in :)

great advice there, out of interest, which egr delete do you have? i have the Allard pipe and i used the blanking plate on the pipe in the later pictures (the one you suggest) and have had no problems at all with that, so would suggest that this is definitly the one to go for. Would be interesting to see if its a certain make of egr deletes that suggest this?

Allard mine is also

Instructions VERY wrong to advise capping off at the inlet end of the EGR pipe....

I didnt give it a thought when I was doing it but come to think about it after its really stupid because its only amatter of time until that otherwise weak pipe breaks. I need get instructions out and confirm I followed them correctly.

I'm really pleased you posted this, as I probably would have over-looked this when I finally do mine! Will this be ok on a BLT though? I've heard they are a pig for EGR stuff?

No experience with them sorry mate.

Yup dont blank it there

I made same mistake lasted 5 miles

i hadnt heard any other way bar blanking at manifold end.

Contacted the sellers and they said the picture on the instructions does show the blanking at the pipe end they have said they will amend the image to show manifold. :)

Your supposed to blank it turbo side not the end you did.

One of the reason to egr delete is to stop them flexible metal pipes splitting like mine did twice before removing the egr.

I think he understands that now lol
