As some of you with the stage 2+/stage 3 tune know you just can't stop the thirst for more power. I have been thinking about either selling the car and getting something for around £8-9000 or keeping the old girl and going k04 turbo.

What do you think I should do? If it's a new car please suggest one as I have wracked my brains trying to think of something with around the same mpg for the same power.

I hate the seats and have never been a fan of the Golf styling. I would no doubt need a new clutch when I went stage 2+ too.

Get a new TSi and K04 that ;)

Again I think I would need a new clutch to hold the power, mine already has the clutch upgrade :) but I did think about it as it's the only other car I can think of that ticks all the boxes.

If you have a Clutch upgrade (sachs?) then i had a Sachs in mine and that was rated to 350bhp/390lb/ft.

A K04 won't get that torque on the BWA engine without some serious other mods, WMI or NOS.

Or you could just get a DSG one and you will be fine. Plenty of people running 350+ bhp in DSG Golf's etc

I thought torque was limited to prevent the rods from bending when running k04?

I'm not worried about my car it's ripe for K04 power. The DSG is certainly an option if I could live with it, I've never driven one :wonder: . I would imagine they maybe out of my price range yet.

Our cars are almost identical (even the same year and colour!!) - it's such a shame that I've never pushed the button on a K04 especially considering we already have some of the hardware requirements e.g. the clutch and the IC.

For me though it's an expense too far, and makes the route back to standard that much more difficult.

Having said that, it's only my post-motorbike head that thinks like this; 18 months ago I was seriously considering it and even bidded on a few parts on eBay.

Don't think so. The engine just doesn't make more than about 330-340lb/ft without serious work.

+1

I think that's what you'd call a win win.

Very true, our cars are twins :giggle:

The putting back to standard bit is a bit off putting as you wouldn't recoup the cash back and the car wouldn't be worth much if anymore. I don't think I could bare to put the work into stripping it back down either, I just need to get it out of my head grrrrrrr!!

I certainly couldn't afford to go Tsi and K04 lol.

Are JKM going to K04 their TSI?

(too many TLA's)

JKM have K04'd their TSI haven't they? I thought they used the APR hardware kit?

If you're at the Shark meet on the 25h you'd be welcome to have a go in my car Martin...

Thanks but I don't get down there much. I'm surprised I haven't seen you about, I'm only in Driffield.

Will have to meet up then, I'm sure it will make your decision a little easier ;)

KO4 mate, you know it makes more sense than stripping your present motor down to put back to standard, to sell it and spending another small fortune on a FL TSI to get back to the same position your in now.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Would anyone know approx. what would the gains be on a 1.8 Tsi going to k04? If not HP maybe precentage wise?

I'm doing 243 HP & 300lb currently. Would k04 be maybe too much for is engine? I have CAI,S3 IC done by JKM and sport exh. but checking the k03 to k04 page from them it seems only like 7% HP and about 10% torque gains which ain't much for at kind of cost.

Still will get a Sachs clutch next time im in Uk.

Cheers.

At JKM I went from 260 to 321 bhp, not bad really

Was that k03 stage 2+ to k04 stage 2+?

That was Revo Stage 2+ with full hardware to full k04 spec. It's now running more as a few things have changed since then.

Wow sleeper! Bet you've suprised some people.

Anyway go K04 I say

What did you add since the KO4 turbo to get more bhp? Did you go back to JKM's rollers to verify back to back to see if you have more than 321bhp?

OP you won't regret going KO4 if you're holding the car for a while.
