Useful 2011 Octavia TSI Elegance VCDS tweaks

Featured Replies

All of the tweaks below use VCDS CENTRAL ELECTRICS, CODING (07) bytes via the long coding helper.

Sound on lock / unlock – Byte 5 bits 1 (locking) & 4 (unlocking). Personally I prefer just the single “chirp” on locking so I have cleared bit 4

Cornering lights via front fogs active - byte 14 select bit 7. This turns the fog light on for the side that you are turning towards when the headlights are switched on. I must admit I found the standard H8 halogens a bit weak so I replaced them with a higher intensity version (same wattage). You can find these if you search for H8 35w Super White Bulbs. You probably also want to de-select “Enabling cornering light with reverse gear active” byte 26 by unticking bit 6 so that they don't come on when you are reversing around a corner.

Comfort Indicator Flash 4 times instead of 3. – This is found in CENTRAL ELECTRICS, ADAPTATIONS, PULL DOWN OPTION, Comfort turn signals (cycles). Like most of you I on this forum, prefer 4 flashes rather than the default 3.

And last, but definitely not least . . .

Enable daytime running lights (DRL’s), Yes they are there in the new models, inside the fog light housing. Do this via "Daytime running light (DRL) via separate lights active" byte 15 tick bit 6 and also tick bit 3 to make one side inactive when the turn signal on that side is flashing. The factory fitted bulbs are PY21W filaments which look a bit naff so I bought some White Can Bus 27 LED Bulbs which were supposed to prevent the bulb failure warning light from coming on (they didn’t do that). I experimented though and found that by changing the percentage dimming figure in byte 24 from 92% to 6% the bulb warning light doesn’t come on but the LEDS function! Admittedly they are not as bright as they could be (probably about 50%) but they still look pretty OK especially on a dull day when they are obviously of most value. BTW, this function will NOT turn on the rear lights.

This is what they look like, using the settings above:- 0b176.jpg

I like this function as it is a complete no-brainer in the time that it might take you to realise that you need to turn on your proper lights to be seen. When you do turn on, even the side lights, the DRL’s automatically turn off. You could also use 6 Ohm 50Watt load resistors and leave byte 24 at the default value to fool the Can Bus. That might invalidate your warranty though and it will use more battery power anyway just to heat up the resistor, not to mention having two very, very hot aluminium cased resistors scotch-locked into the space behind the fog light housing – that’s definitely not for me. I gave up on the idea of LED side lights for much the same reason even though the load resistors for those don’t even get so hot.

If anyone has any observations further useful suggestions please message me. Thanks for looking!

I have CH/LH working on the fogs, much better than blasting the neighbours with the Xenons.

hi,

are the drl bulbs canbus error free ones with the resistors?

Thanks..

Hiya - not sure about that but if you do a search on eBay for "SMD 1156 BAU15S PY21W LED CANBus Indicator Bulbs White" those are the guys I am using. It says that they don't work on every canbus vehicle - and I have been told that the new Octavia is in that category of sensitivity. In the meantime I'm toying with the idea of using load resistors as they are probably not quite bright enough in daylight with such a reduction of voltage. What a pity they can't be coded to be accepted without precipitating a bulb error :( - Unless someone out there knows differently of course, or perhaps there is an alternative PY21W LED bulb that does work in this situation?

How about the staging or needle sweep, or does the Octavia do that already?

How about the large mph display?

How about the large mph display?

Not sure about the first two. Mph display only available with the micro-dot display I believe and not the standard elegance :(

Large MPH is available by changing your country code to Australia, I seem to recall from elsewhere.

CH/LH via fogs is listed elsewhere on this forum as well.

Welsh Boyo - I reserve the right to come and nag you next time I head home to sunny Abertawe-on-Sea, if that's alright with you.. I've drawn a complete blank finding any handy VCDS-wielders around here!

Is this possible with the standard display? or only maxi dot?

Thanks..

Needle staging = yes via vagcom

activate 5 signal flashes instead of 3

activate XDS (must have) on strong

Reduce interior movement sensor so you can leave the windows open a tad

raise DRL intensity(when using leds)

activate corner lights

rear tear drop wiping (rain wiper)

No worries, just PM me to arrange if needed.
