So today marks 2 weeks of Yeti ownership and it has been good so far.

Am impressed with the overall quality of the car, the finish, the engine, the drive. Love having all the bits of tech at my finger tips. But a little off putting I feel!!! So far my journeys have been the daily drive to my 'summer jobs', the 16 miles each way could not be made interesting by any car, but I am loving the improved fuel economy, compared to my 2.0l petrol 4x4 xtrail. I just filled up yesterday for the first time, adding just over 40 litres with nearly 470miles travelled. With town driving at each end and 50mph roads in between i think its pretty good for running in period, and my confusion at having my first diesel. Usually reading over 50mpg, but up to the higher 70's at times.

Things that have annoyed me-

The speedo isn't great, maybe its the position I sit, but can't clearly see it without almost peering round, I always liked the dials in the centre of the dash on the x-trail.

The stupidly small sunglasses storage area! Its not like i have massive glasses!

The way every time i get in the car after connecting to my phone as desired, the car tries to access and play the music on my phone? BT audio or something, how do i make that stop! Also the bolero only reads some music off the SD card, but the file types seem the same? And can i use voice recognition for my phone book, if i press certain buttons a woman tells be I can, but how do i set it up?

Everything else about the car (and those aren't BIG things) I love, look forward to going on a longer drive in it.

I've been looking into getting roof rails and a cycle rack, looked through a few threads on this forum, but still un-decided, I have a halfords mount blanc cycle rack i used on the x-trail, just waiting to see if its compatible before making a decision, don't want to try it and break something!

I am still waiting to give the car a proper detailing, decided to continue using autoglym stuff, and I have a long list of magical products that i shall be using, just looking for the best price still and the time for hours of fun!

Need to get a xenon bulb kit for foreign trips, door sill covers and a windscreen cover so my seats stop absorbing all the suns heat and cause me getting to work like i've run there! Any suggestion appreciated.

But all in all I love the yeti, I miss my xtrail still, but reliability, cost and driving up hills in a higher gear will prevail. I'm sure there is some kind of proverb about if the horse can't pull the cart any more, a new horse is needed, its just i didn't have the space and money to put the old one to pasture and it helps the new one is so good and shiney!!!

Good to read you like it. Sorry I can't help with the techie bits.

You won't find a HID Bulb kit; just buy the normal one. No-one will know the difference!

+1. I was once at a road check in France and the gendarmes asked if I had a set of spare bulbs - I just waved a plastic box at them and they were happy without even checking there was anything in it (there was, as it happnes, but bulbs for a car I had many years previously!).

Not really noticed the sped being a problem, but I would prefer if the were angled slightly towards each other so they are easier to see.

Is that what the tiny storage space is for emoticon-0140-rofl.gif I know what you mean. My sunglasses won't fit in there either.

Not sure what is happening with your phone playing music. What phone do you have? My iPhone doesn't play music unl;ess it is playing on the phone and I deliberately press the BT audio button on my Columbus.

Best post in the ICE forum area on Briskoda for help with the Bolero - much, much wider audience.

HID bulbs will cost you around £80 from Superskoda, about half what you would pay from a dealer. - suggest you do as Lanigraham and hmibennett suggest, just carry a 'normal' spare bulb kit.

Mke

Sorry lost me why do you need to change bulbs?

Sorry lost me why do you need to change bulbs?

If you travel abroad you should carry a spare set........should do in the UK as well really, even if you can't replace some yourself without booking into a dealer.....

You won't find a HID Bulb kit

Allams list a Xenon bulb kit for the Yeti in their parts web shop.

Doesn't mean they actually have one in stock to sell you, of course!

EDIT:

And if you click on the listing it describes it as a set of roof bars, which doesn't encourage confidence. Nor does the fact that it's listed at £14 when Superskoda ask 50 Euro for a single HID bulb...

I found the same on a past SEAT in particular but also to a lesser extent for the Yeti and I wonder if it is down to the dash/speedo being designed for left hand drive cars, ie the bulk of sales. My eyes naturally go to the rev counter as that is in a more direct line of sight. I then have to glance along to the speedo. Maybe it is a VAG thing. You sort of get used to it but a central speedo would be better. It wont happen though so we simply have to get on with it.

Others have complained about the fact that the speedo is marked off in 20mph increments, so there's no explicit 30mph, 50mph or 70mph labels. I have to say that I have no problem with the position of the speedo (maybe it helps that I'm 6ft+ and sit quite high) or its markings. I think the offset position is going to be something that it wil take you time to get used to after your Renault Nissan. My previous car had speedo and tacho side by side like the Yeti so I've not had to cope with any change.

My Oakley Fives B) fit OK but they are quite dinky.

The way every time i get in the car after connecting to my phone as desired, the car tries to access and play the music on my phone? BT audio or something, how do i make that stop!

Mine does that sometimes. I don't know whether it's the phone, the car, or the two of them conspiring together. I suspect that it's actually the phone which gets all excited about having a bluetooth audio connection and decides to start playing music unasked (and it usually manages to pick one of the most embarrassingly cheesy tracks on its microSD card!) The last time it happened, the Bolero kept popping up a dialogue box asking if I wanted to switch to BT Audio. The first few times it popped up I tapped "No" and it went away, but popped up again a few minutes later. After a while I just I ignored it and it went away. I think the BT Audio button highlight went away as well, suggesting that the phone had given up trying to play music.

You can disable the BT Audio altogether via the Setup screen on the Bolero. You would need to re-enable it if you did want to listen to music from your phone, of course, or get sat nav directions from Google Navigator or the like.

And can i use voice recognition for my phone book, if i press certain buttons a woman tells be I can, but how do i set it up?

It will work without any setting up - you just say the contact name and it will try to find it in the phone book copied from the mobile using some kind of reverse text to speech techno-trickery. It's not particularly reliable but if your contact names are simple enough (eg one of mine is just "Home") then I find it works about 50% of the time :S You can also record your own voice tags, via the multi-function display. You call up a contact from the phone book on the MFD, click the roller on the steering wheel and one of the options should be to record a voice tag for it. Good luck.

You sort of get used to it but a central speedo would be better. It wont happen though so we simply have to get on with it.

well if you can find a friendly VCDS owner you can enable the maxidot speedo, I have a big MPH readout smack bang in the centre of my maxidot now. I had no idea it was possible until I saw Johann's post on here about how to enable it. Took me 5 minutes to do.

Perfect.

Thanks for the replies, I think i will use a bulb kit from an old car for day trips and invest in a official bulb kit later on (do new cars in countries with these regulations come supplied with spare bulb kits?)

The lack of 30/50/70 mph marks is annoying, i was annoyed at the lack of speed in kph, then saw it on the maxi-dot, I'm 6'4 so can't get much higher to see if its any better!

Shall try dis-connected BT audio, it selects a track on my phone to play, but if i try to play it then it tells me connection failed on my phone as well as on the maxi-dot if selected that way.

Will try again with the voice recogintion on the bluetooth, will be fun to have, despite never using my phone, shame it doesn't read out texts like a friends C-Class, great amusement!

I do love all the storage space around the car, esp around the spare.

Two more annoyances-

rain dripping thru the open window when roof/windscreen is wet, seems worse than other cars.

Also the really quiet indicator warning tone, i don't have music loud, and am not deaf, but keep leaving the indicator on and have almost had people pull out on me a couple of types, at this moment would like a defcon 1 style siren at volume 11 to alert me to the fact i am still signalling.

But still loving it. Cheers for the advice, Will have to get on the I.C.E section about bolero functions

I too moved from an x-trail to the Yeti and, apart from the small boot on the Yeti. miss nothing from the old Nissan. I presume you have altered the steering wheel angle and distance to help see the speedo? I can see all the dials OK on mine.

I do miss that "shelf" in front of the XT speedo - very useful for bits such as sunglasses. I have a Halfords Sunspecs clip on my sun visor along with my Bluetooth speaker/mic.

I don't miss the XT fuel consumption - 33 mpg The Yeti gives me 43-45 mpg. And I don't miss the way the XT scrubbed the inside of the front tyres. (I was told that it was the design and not the wheel alignment.)

Overall give me the Yeti any day over the XT - it grows on you!!

What the 'Yeti Spare Bulb Kit Zenon' actually contains is a special adaptor anda Halogen Bulb, which can be used in place of the Zenon bulb in an emergency, it does NOT contain a Zenon bulb, nor I am afraid does it contain a DLR bulb !! ...but that's another bone of contention.....

get the digital speedo enabled on the maxi dot and then you really can't miss the speed you're doing
