Door card - trying to fix drivers side CL issue

Featured Replies

I've come across the all too familiar central locking issue where everything works on the remote except drivers door, but does lock and unlock with the key. interior lights, and door mirrors all work.

So i removed the door card thinking i will find a frayed wire or water ingress but nothing, all is dry, pins look fine and cabling all looks ok.

So i put the door card back on and re hooked the cable on the back of the interior handle and now the door handle doesn't open/close the door. It seems the cable that moves a brass colour lever up and down doesn't reach the plastic part to make the lock open/close. Can anyone advise what i need to do to adjust it correctly again as i now have a door that doesn't work at all. :(

Also any ideas what else might be wrong or what needs to be replaced to address the orginal issue of drivers door not opening or locking with the remote (already looked at other threads several times)?

Hi Shroud, as well as hooking the cable to the interior handle you need to make sure the cable outer is in the retaining sleeve (otherwise it just pulls the whole cable including the outer when you pull the handle).

Hope this helps!

yup as said they can pop out sometimes even when you put in the retaining piece, so always check before you fully attach the card

Thanks chaps. I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "you need to make sure the cable outer is in the retaining sleeve", but when i manually pull on the cable hook i can see where it moves the lever (and when reconnected to the handle the same), but it no longer seems to move the lock sufficiently to lock/unlock the door. As an alternate test i pushed down on the metal door pin and it doesn't seem to move much, so i think something in the locking mechanism has somehow jammed.

PITA, but i've booked it into my local indie to have a look tomorrow, but would welcome any further input to see if i can sort it beforehand.

Hopefully it might help others, as in my case it was the drivers door lock that needed replacing. £100 new from Skoda, or about £40 second hand. Decided tgo go with brand new for peace of mind and to get my car back up and running asap.
