Door locks again

Featured Replies

I got to grips with the replacement inner door opener cable this afternoon. All seemed to go well until the end when I found that the door no longer locks on the key. It moves both ways about a third of a turn but nothing happens and there does not feel (not being able to see up into the door) to be any link between the key barrel and the door latch.

Can anyone tell me how the barrel operates to lock the car?

Yours with an unlocked passenger door!

I am wondering what the symptoms are that caused you to replace the cable.

My drivers door didn't operate on the remote, and was diagmosed with needing a new drivers door lock, which i understand incorporates the motor, and i was having a similar issue as you describe.

Doe the latch lock and unlock when you pull on the cable hook, or is this the same as trying to lock/unlock the door with the key? If the same, then it points towards the door lock itself.

Thanks, Shroud, that was the reason for the question.

The inner and outer door levers work but the key barrel doesn't operate any more.

I can't take the outer handle off without drilling the access hole larger to get my torque in.

When I had the lock free I may have disconnected something but I don't know/ cannot see what.

I was hoping some one could tell me how the barrel is connected to the lock/ mechanically stops the handle operating/ operates an electric switch so that I can fix it.

Regards, Peter

Well i have an exploded diagram of the door lock and outer door handle from a workshop repair guide that i don't mind sending you if you pm your email.

Did the job. I had broken the 'paddle' from the barrel into the lock. Got a genuine replacement at a very reasonable price of e-bay.

The barrel is a bit stiff, I think due to spraying oil on the nylon.

Anyway I reassembled everything and am left with six silver self tappers and one black self tapper. Does anyone know what they should have been attached to?
