front tweeters not working

Featured Replies

hi guys i had 2 amps fitted to my car yesterday and the guys who did the install noticed that neither of my front tweeters where working(not sure if they were working when i purchased the car). i have checked the connectors and they seem ok. does anyone know where the crossovers are for these speakers?? so i can check everything is connected? other than that does anyone know what the issue could be??

cheers

You will find that they are connected behind the door speakers as a double connecter thats if the peakers in the door`s havent been changed, if they have then you may need to scotch lock the wires of the tweeters in the door to the original wires that are fed from the head unit, I had to do this when I upgraded the sound system to full pioneer in my octi

hi scotty ive checked both the connectors, behind the speakers and the tweeter connector..............seems a bit strange both of them are not working!

grab a multimeter and first of all check if they receive signal. if they do => they're burnt; if not, it's time to check wires.

check the diagram

factory stereo or aftermarket ? the wiring scheme for the factory one looks like this

now this may sound silly but how do i check them using a multi meter?? :S changing a lighbulb is as far as my electrical knowledge spans!!

it is an aftermarked hu by the way

to check if the speaker receives signal from the HU start playing something. 2 wires are going to each speaker. put one probe on one of the wires, the second on the other wire. it doesn't matter if u measure the voltage or amperage, it's just for the purpose of knowing if the tweeter is dead or not. if u can't read anything try the same procedure on the connections of the lower speaker towards the tweeter.

if u suspect a broken wire set the meter to ohm(Ω). proceed by checking each wire (one probe on one end, the other on the second end of the wire). if the reading shows infinity (or the value shown when the probes aren't touching anything) the wire is snapped.

the same procedure will help you trace the wires back to the harness of the HU. you can then check the connections there and even see if the HU fails to deliver on those connections.

Easier way to check the tweeter would be with a low voltage battery, 9V absolute maximum (1.5V is probably enough for a tweeter). Click the terminals on and off the battery repeatedly. If no noise (or movement) then tweeter is a lost cause.

sure thing. i was only trying to cover the other possible scenarios :p
