New Intake

Featured Replies

I understand what you mean but the airbox on the vRS is poorly designed, it doesn't give the best air flow, that's why I believe a lot of people go for an aftermarket air intake kit.

I remember Techie's old Seat Ibiza Boc had the forge intake and it gave such a good gain due to the improved design. I do think if you do engine mods (intake, exhaust etc etc) you should get the car remapped so it can be used to it's potential but it won't harm it not to.

Can always come up and show me. Just up in Aberdeen ;) haha!

Kie, thats interesting what you say about a lesser tuned car actually running better with a more restricted airflow, does the freeflow induction only allow a bigger amount of air through rather than produce a forced air effect?

I thought that induction kits just increased the range of air amount that the engine can draw rather than merely dump the air into the engine.

Well would you say a forced air effect is pushing more air into the system? were as a car standard would be set up to a certain amount of air/fuel ratio and if your forcing more air into the mix then the car is going to want to even the ratio out to the same ratio as it was set up to do?

Personaly i would get myslef down to revo and purchase a new panel filter that fits in the standard box with proven power gains

Slight bump-age.

Been fiddling about trying to figure out if its worth keeping the kit where it is, or moving the filter to connect directly into the intake and using a feed pipe to bend around, keeping the filter away from the heat...

Also, Costing me £31 a year extra which i think is meh. What do you guys thing?

bonnet scoops!

How much will it cost to modify it up higher mate ?

What you meaning?

The new intake is an extra £31 a year added to my premium, fully declared etc etc.

£31 for an air filter per year?? ffs thats robbery. on its own theres very little, if any, performance gains. just a better note and no need to replace at service time therefore saving a bob or two.

for what its worth and im not saying it'd be the same for everyone, i had a k&n plus jabba arb on my mkI, had a prang and the insurance never battered an eyelid about my undeclared mods

check first but id bet most insurers would just say 'were not paying for that to be replaced, we'll only pay for a standard replacement one'

you case sounds very much like the premiums they charged for putting winter rubber on, a joke

This isn't just a filter tho, this completely replaces the airbox.

Sorry mate, meant how much would it cost for new piping to move it up ?

  • Author

Oh right, to re-arrange the piping.. Probably another £2.50 70mm joining hose and whatever it costs for a cold air feed tube. Wouldn't imagine more than £10 for that.

Whats the beast sounding like now with the intake?

It's good. It is a fair bit louder when you get to about 3k onwards. Much deeper roar than the stock ever made.

I've noticed the "blow off valve" a lot more since I've put it on too.

Nice! You should take a vid and post up the link for us to hear

so did the k&n

its a great looking mod matey, no denying that. id like one on my car. its just the insurance rip off im whinging about, their taking the pish

Ha I know, but knowing my luck someone will prang me then I'll be up **** creek because "im un-insured"

I'll try and get a video but the sound from my camera isn't the best.

  • Author

Some not so good video's. Dont really get the full effect as the car cant rev over 4k in neutral but hopefully its at least an idea.

I think recording the sound further away from the engine bay would give a better impression of the induction noise, the cam/valve noise is to prominent to get a good impression.

Dont know what the hissing sound on the second video is...

I think the hissing on the second video is the stock BOV.

Yeah sounds like the OEM diverter valve

The noise will be amplified with the aftermarket filter.
