Intermittent wipers

Featured Replies

I know how to alter the frequency of the intermittent wipe, by adjusting the little lever on top of the wiper control stalk. But is it possible, via VagCom etc, to alter the sensitivity of the rain sensor on the windscreen that is allocated to each position of this little lever?

For five years I’ve had this set to the least sensitive position, for the slowest intermittent wipe. Think I may have used the second position once or twice only. The other positions effectively have the wipers on constantly whatever the rainfall, so are a waste of time. I’d really like to do this if possible – so that a typical intermittent wipe would be set by using one of the central positions.

cheers

What really annoys me on both the wife's 9N Polo and my old B5 Passat, is, that little lever does not seem to alter the sensitivity by much at all - well not that you would really notice, makes you wonder just how inconvenient it would have been to stick with variable intermittant without the rain sensing, but most of the time I must say they work very well.

That's right, on mine too I don't think the lever makes any difference at all. On my Fabia it used to work as you'd expect, but the Fabia didn't have a rain sensor.

Can't you just turn off the rain sensor by clicking the Park switch (face of the left hand stalk) to 'off'? I thought this deactivates the rain sensor as well as the parking light, and a couple of other things?

The rain sensor seems to set the speed itself depending on the rainfall, in my experience.

It'll mean going to all that effort of flicking the stalk yourself though when the rain comes

You've got me confused here - the only 'off' on the face of the left hand stalk on my car is to turn off the cruise control...

Mine too, 2.5TDi Elegance, 55 plate.

Mmmmm :S

On the left hand stalk, mines's got a sliding switch marked 'P' and a light symbol, which is the parking light, activated if you have the indicator stalk down or up for left and right lights. A quick read of the manual suggested this turns off the rain sensor if switched off. I haven't tried it because my wipers seem to work pretty well on auto. It might turn off cruise control as well but I can just do that from the steering wheel???

Mine's a 1.9 TDI PD130 Comfort, 2005.

I'll double check later and post again if I've got it wrong.

That switch is for cruise control only. Switching the wiper switch to off is what disconnected the rain sensor,The auto system works well on mine including the adjustment switch. If you really wanted to I think you can replace the auto sensing module with an intermittent one.
