switch trouble with dealer

Featured Replies

i have an 08 skoda fabia II 1.9d level3 estate.

i bought it a few months ago from a skoda dealer who gave me a 12 month warranty.

they recently changed the flywheel and clutch. the button which controls the cruise control speed, (on the indicator switch), was sticking, so they changed that too.

all good so far except that when i drove it away i noticed that they had too changed the wiper switch too, and the new one is different - it does not have any controls which change the dash readout of mpg, etc.

i of course phoned the dealer and they did not comprehend the problem. i took the car back to them where they argued that the cruise control switch is now new and again failed to comprehend the different wiper switch.

i am no expert but i would assume that the switch is indeed a pair of switches all in one. and these can't be changed individually.

it is now 2 weeks since my car was in the dealership for the work and the display on the dashboard is permanently stuck on the displaying the amount of time the car has been driven for and i cannot change the display as the control buttons are no longer there.

any suggestions as to what i can do would be great. (a photo of a switch or a part number would be even better).

You require part number 7H0 953 513C for cars with cruise control and multi function dislay, they have fitted 7H0 953 513B which is cruise control only.Hope this helps.

Sounds like they've basically rendered your on board computer useless. Demand a new stalk with the computer function.

Grrr, there's lots making me angry on here tonight

Can't believe the dealer is trying to get out of that one. All Fabia 3 models have that button.

Would go back to them and try and find someone else to talk to. Whoever you spoke to is just being dishonest or stupid.

If you can give me a email address Ican sed you a copy of the parts page with all details

So let me get this straight, you phoned the dealer and explained the problem to no avail, and then physically took the car to them to show them the stalk minus the rocker switch and they still didn't understand what you were trying to say?

I'm amazed you drove away; I'd have lost my temper and demanded that they put right their ****-up!

There are two different stalks, one with and one without the rocker switch. You should have asked them to show you how you select the different options on the computer!

They are available separately though so I have no idea why they would swap both?

Contact Skoda UK and explain the problem to them.

On the Fabia II they are combined, it's one switch.

thanks for all the helpful advice, comments and part numbers.

today i rang another dealership, just to double confirm that the part number was indeed 100% correct, regarding my chasis number, etc.

i then drove to the dealership who did the work and demanded to speak to the service manager. he listened, quickly understood the problem, inspected the car, ordered the part and apologised.

he says his paperwork shows only one switch, (indicator), was changed and is mystified as to why and how.

i explained that i really do not care who, how, why, or whatever - i just wast the mfd switch working again and as soon as possible.

he further says that he will open the part box to make sure it is correct before calling me to book the car in.

seems like a result so far and it should be fitted at the beginning of next week.

i will update here and i have to say i'm in 2 minds if i should involve skoda uk.

I guess these must be from the Fabia I then...

Yes they are Fabia 1 (and Octavia 1)

Fabia 2 is the same as 6L Ibiza and 9N Polo

Good job, I would let the dealer have this final chance before going to Skoda UK, sounds like the service manager is a good guy. keep us posted.

the service manager called me a coulple of days ago and said he has checked the new switch and that it was correct.

i booked the car in for the next morning and by lunchtime the car had the original spec switch returned.

they also performed a "vehicle check", and they washed the car too - although i was hoping for a full valet.

alls well that ends well.

thanks again folks.

Got there in the end then, good news.

Did you also want the manager to come round and cut your grass? :giggle:
