Lumpy Idle Octavia 1.6 BFQ Engine

Featured Replies

Hi,

For some time now I've been having problems with my European Octavia 1.6 BFQ.

It really lupy when idling, revs are hunting up and down

Got somebody to read the error codes and it was nightmare. So I did a full service, changed the plugs, all filters, oil etc. Replaced the Pre-cat Oxygen sensor and replaced the coolant temperature sensor. Things didn't improve so much as I didn't have access to a computer to reset the faults.

I run on LPG gas and I know the garage has a computer, so I went last night and he canceled the faults for me. He told me that I had to book the car in for a repair to the gas installation today (one of the gas injectors was not performing as it should).

It seemed to improve a little bit last night but this morning it was lumpy again.

He did the repair today and read the fresh error codes which turned up this morning. It was the post-cat Oxygen sensor.

He said on petrol it is really lumpy and doesn't feel the post-cat oxygen sensor is the culprit. Any ideas on it?

He said to try and book time and leave the car with him for a couple of days so he could check what was wrong.

It's done 240K KM and like I say now it's only throwing up the Pot-Cat Oxygen sensor as an error

Any guidance, pointers would be greatly received.

have you tried cleaning the throttle body.

No I haven't done that yet. Will I need a computer to reset anything after I've cleaned it?

try cleaning it in situ. take off the airbox hose, and give the throttle flap a good cleaning with a clean rag and some carb cleaner spray.you can hold the throttle flap opened with one hand on the cable linkage. and get inside with your other hand.then replace the airbox hose and see if it runs any smoother.
