speed camara detector? which one?

Featured Replies

Glad to know that you are so perfect and you always know the speed limit and you have never broken one.

I thought the police weren't meant to make assumptions? You are assuming that there is a speed limit sign for the road i was unaware of the speed limit. You assume that because i don't know the limit, that i am breaking it. You also assume that because i have a road angel i am 'flouting' the law. Nothing is further from the truth. Enraged with your reply on my way to work this morning, i consciously looked for speed limit signs (I know the speed limits on all the roads on my journey to work so never really have to consciously have to look for the limits) and a classic example is turning out from a 30 limit side street onto a 40. Thing is at the junction onto this road there are no change of speed limit signs and it isn't until about 400-500 metres down the road that there is a repeater sign.

I would like to add that 9 times out of 10 where i don't know the speed limit, that i am under the speed limit when i find out what it is.

I think that police should also practice what they preach, as i can't remember the last time that i saw an officer doing the speed limit, particularly around Shropshire. They are usually flying past the traffic on the main dual carriageway through one town, which is a 60mph limit.

I also thought that the police have to be impartial? i don't think discrimination would be looked on favorably in court B)

your right, I do assume things, isnt that what all people not just the fuzz do? if we didn't how would we be able to form suspicion?

i'm glad that today you looked for speed sings as this also means you looked for other road sign thus improving your road safety!

the example you have used is a pretty bad one to be honest as you should know that if you driving in a 30mph then it is still a 30 until you see a sign stating otherwise and thus in no danger at all of breaking it! plus if there isn't a speed limit sign to a reduced limit and you are prosecuted then you have a very good defence assuming you video the route showing no speed limit sign and show it to the court.

I agree with the police remark also as i hate it when I see officers not going to jobs breaking the speed limit. If you truely believe that they are not going to a police job then report it to your local force and the officer can justify their actions.

If you have done IAM then you have basically gained the police standard driving qualification just without the speed eliment so you know as well as I that you cast your obsivations out as far as you can looking for information, so you should see the sings no problems at all.

if the sign has been removed or damaged by vandles or is obscured from view by a tree/bush or anyother article then I would say thats a good defence as well.

IMO and I fully respect that every has their own opinion your post as an officer of the law in a highly respectable position has just confirmed on a public forum that you would discriminate against a driver with a speed detector device in their car.

Now I’m not naive enough to think that the world is perfect and I have a vast amount of life experience that I rely on everyday which in no small part includes psychology and its vast complex nature. I.E. A jobs worth who is having a bad day and you are the one they decide to take it out on to someone who would help a perfect stranger in trouble rather than walking on by. Any way back to my point. You as a public servant and one in a much respected profession that can influence someone’s life dramatically, positively or negatively, have actually admitted that your own preconceived ideas will ultimately mean the person you pull over in those circumstances has absolutely no chance of not getting a NIP.

So can we make the assumption that if it was a big bussomed, very attractive lady (or man, I not discriminating) and they were in the same circumstances you would act the same way? Or if they offered you an alternative way of resolving the matter you wouldn’t take it?

If I am confronted by a person who has a roadangle device or other speed camera detecting device whom stated they didn't have time to look for speed limits for X Y Z reasons then yes my decision would be to prosecute as they have no excuse as (assuming the roadangle is up to date) it will tell them the speed limit and will flash (so I believe, I have never owned one) to tell them if they are breaking it. what excuse could they possibly have then? In my opinion there is no reason I can think of why someone could not look out for road signs, if they make a habbit of missing them then they are likely to miss junctions, other road users, roundabouts etc.

I understand everyone has a bad day also and thus maybe be in a bad mood thinking about something else and when driving along the road they miss the speed limit change sign and then fall foul of the law, assuming they arent double the limit or driving like a person possessed then I would consider using my discretion. the NIP remark was in jest, if they are breaking it less than 20mph they it should be offered to be dealt with by means of fixed penalty.

And as for the big bussomed lady remark, NOPE sorry to disapoint, she would be dealt with in just the same way as I am married, happily I think? :) and have no use for things like that anymore!

I appologise for any spelling or grammer errors, I am very tired and can't sleep!

After giving it some thought I will also apologise as over the recent months I have read this forum and I have found more and more people bragging about the modifications to their car to drive faster and faster and claiming they have reaced other cars and traffic lights etc (this topic springs to mind http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/212542-unfortunate-events/page__st__60__p__2508686__hl__unfortunate+events__fromsearch__1#entry2508686 )and I have tarred everyone with the same brush.

Good to know - i presume that works in reverse as on my journey home where i turn from the 40 into a 30 there is no signs. In fact there are no more signs besides the 40 repeater just before i turn off for the further 2 miles to home. So i can do 30 going to work and 40 on the way home, genius! :D

There is even a speed camera on the one road i go down.

I think an email to the council is in order.

So perhaps now you can appreciate that i think i may have missed a sign when i fact there might not be one there at all (in my casing point above). Also in the example above my Road Angel has alerted me to the fact that it is a 30mph limit when to all intents from the signage it is a 40mph limit. So i no way flouting the law but in fact guidance on the misguidance from the council/highways.

To those people who say they never ever speed - yeah right.

Everyone speeds, be it on purpose or accidently.

Think about that next time you're doing 73mph on the motorway, or 32mph in a 30. It happens all the time.

And the man who said he races his 1.4 off the lights to beat BMWs, yes mate, well done. You keep up the skoda pride
