What tyre speed rating is currently being fitted to Fabias with 16" alloys?

Featured Replies

Noticed that the recommended rim and tyre guide published by Skoda Germany changed the 16" alloys tyre speed rating recommendation of 205/45 R16 83W as with our Fabia manufactured last year, to a 205/45 R16 83H tyre instead.

Is this change reflected in the tyres fitted to vehicles currently coming of the production line.

Thanks,

TP

As follows speed letter rating at end of load rating

H - 130 MPH

V - 149 MPH

W - 168 MPH

Y - 186 MPH

My tyres on the old 2005 Fabia VRS had 205/45/R16 83W fitted when car was new, so tyres were over-rated for top speed, being 130MPH maximum.

Have fitted H speed rated with load rated 83 / 87 tyres, as and when tyres were replaced.

Can you post a link to the web page please.

My Elegance 1.6TDi CR 105 with 205/45/16 was factory fitted with W rated Bridgestone ER300s but the same engine in the SE has 195/55/15 and H rated. I have always been puzzled why the 16" tyres were specified as W.

If the official specification has changed I can fit H rated replacements and save a few £££ without any risks of being caught by a fastidious insurance inspector etc.

My BlueLine still has two original Continentals and they read 205/45/R16 (W).

I'm replacing them shortly with a couple of Kuhmo's I picked up cheaply (£35 each :))....it's a very expensive tyre size generally so be warned!

I've never understood the logic of specifying tyres of a rating that is massively higher than what is needed. As mentioned it potntially leaves you open to the 'get out' finders at insurance companies if you don't comply. Surely logic says they tyre rating specification should be 'not lower than....'

Sometimes tyres are fitted with a higher top speed rating than the vehicle ( particularly bikes) is capable of to reflect the power/torque/ performance notwithstanding the actual top speed, however this certainly couldn't be applied to a 105PS Fabia!

'The Plumber',

Thanks for posting the links. I have downloaded and saved the files.

Yes I've noticed 205/45/16's are expensive and another reason I would have preferred 195/55/15. I guess a less popular size than say 205/55/16 despite less raw material needed.
